After an outstandingly successful World Cup season so far with nearly 50% of the races won, only one gold medal might seem disappointing and we’re not gonna lie: We did expect more. But this one gold medal for Mikaela Shiffrin was undoubtedly one of the most emotional ones. Learn more about it here.
Believe it or not but this 7th gold medal was Mikaela’s first one in the giant slalom which means that she now has won titles in four different disciplines. With the silver in super g and slalom, she left Meribel as the most successful female participant in these Championships.
On the men’s side, Aleksander Aamodt Kilde came to win his first WSC medals and succeeded with silver in both downhill and super g. In the latter, the Norwegian missed gold by the minimal winning margin of 0.01.
An outcome Marco Schwarz knows full well: In the Alpine Combined, he won silver, only 0.10 sec behind gold and in the downhill he finished only 0.04 behind the podium. Eventually, “Blacky” took bronze in the giant slalom.
The Team Event ended with a special pair of Redster on the podium: Erik and Jeffrey Read led the Canadian team to the bronze medal.
On the last day, Alex Vinatzer won his first medal in an individual race: bronze in the slalom!
