From race-course to the skishop

The development of a new ski technologies starts with input from the world’s best skiers. What is the journey from the first prototypes of a new ski to FIS model development on to the final product for the consumer? What does it take for an updated design or technology like the new Revoshock modules to be applied to a production ski?

ALL OUR RACERS...

...from Marco Schwarz to Mikaela Shiffrin are obsessed with finding every advantage, physically and technically. The careful tuning of their equipment is essential. Professional skiers have up to a hundred pairs of skis to cover all disciplines. An army of service technicians are constantly testing, tweaking, and adjusting a range of prototypes until the demands of every athlete are met. The ski and ski/boot interface influences the responsiveness of the ski and determines if the athlete can stand at the start gate in total confidence. Twelve months a year, the team around the Atomic Race Manager, Christian Höflehner, works to test and improve new products with the athletes. New skis and prototypes are tested, then fine-tuned with the athletes. At the end of this process, only one or two of around 15 original prototypes remain, which are then further refined. Conditions for such tests must be as realistic as possible, the racers are constantly testing during the racing season

PROOF OF CONCEPT

In the 20/21 season, various athletes have already raced and won on the new REDSTER G9 REVOSHOCK. These athletes included Aleksander Aamodt Kilde, Mikaela Shiffrin, Marco Schwarz, and Lucas Braathen, who won the season-opening race in Sölden on this ski. Since then, the new REDSTER MODELS have also been raced at other competition levels to great success.

SKI DEVELOPMENT

Once the construction and technology have been proven at the highest level, the ski goes into production for the Atomic FIS collection. The findings from emperical tests, and feedback from the athletes go straight to the R&D department who produce the blueprint for the FIS production ski. The skis are produced according to this blueprint and the corresponding technical features meet our highest manufacturing standards.
