• Where do I want to ski? On the piste or sometimes off-piste as well?
• Am I looking for speed and perfectly groomed pistes or do I want a ski that works well all day and saves energy?
• Do I want to ski long or short turns or a combination of both?

There is a suitable ski for every area of use. The skis have certain characteristics, depending on the type of skiing. The skis differ with regard to the waist, the radius, the rocker and the length.

The waist of a ski describes the curved shape of the ski when viewed from above. In other words, it refers to the shape or profile of the ski, in particular the width of the ski under the binding. The waist is a crucial factor for the handling and performance of a ski. The more waisted a ski is and the smaller the radius, the shorter the turns you can make with it. Conversely, a large radius is intended for long turns and is also recommended for freeride-oriented skis.

On a ski with a rocker, the front and/or rear part of the ski lifts off the snow surface, similar to the blade of an ice skate. This makes it easier to turn the ski and offers better performance in deep snow.

The length of the ski depends not only on where it is used and your skiing skills, but also on your height. However, personal preferences also play a role in choosing the perfect ski length. Advanced skiers tend to use longer skis than beginners.

• Beginners:

Ski length = about chin height. This length is conducive to learning and gives greater control.

• Advanced:

Ski length = usually between the chin and forehead. This provides a good balance between control and performance.

• Experts:

Ski length = body height or longer than the skier. This provides maximum speed and stability. However, this length also requires greater skill.
