As in any other sport, good fitting boots are essential. What are the most important parts to consider when choosing a cross-country (or nordic) ski boot? Do you want to race or just enjoy it for personal progress? The closer to racing you go, the thinner and tougher the cross country ski boot gets. We've summed up all the differences and characteristics below.

Boots For Classic Skiing

Boots for classic nordic skiing are easy to recognize. They do not have any cuff support to keep an ankle free and enable maximal flex. Classic boots are also softer in the front part of the sole to ensure that you can flex the foot and have a great bounce.

On the other hand, good classic boots should have heel support to ensure that the heel fits in the boot and doesn't shake side to side.

              Boots For Skating

              Boots for skating are higher and they need to have cuff supporter. Sport boots ensure comfort and stability and racing carbon versions manage effective support and enable powerful bounce. One important difference between classic and skate boots is in the sole. Skate boots have stiff soles to ensure effective transmission of power.

                        Which Size Do I Need?

                        Cross-country ski boots should fit to wrap around the foot, but you should not feel extra pressure. For the classic style, the boot can be 1 size bigger.
