ABOUT

After two decades creating historically themed videogames, Atomic still remains true to its purpose today: We blend real-life tactics and scenarios with our proprietary technology to create core game mechanics players haven't experienced before in any videogame.

Our studio is led by industry veterans from Bungie, Red Storm, EA, Activision, and others. We are now developing an innovative military shooter for one of the world's five largest video game publishers. This game is being developed for the leading consoles, Macintosh, and PC, and is powered by our proprietary game engine.

Although our main business is making games for consumers, we also develop training systems for many of the world’s leading military and intelligence organizations. This helps us give players of our videogames authentic inside access to the events, tactics, and stories at the heart of real military and espionage operations.

Atomic is headquartered in Raleigh, NC, one of the world's leading cities for video game development. We're a privately held corporation that is owned by employees and investors, including In-Q-Tel, a private venture capital firm funded by the United States Central Intelligence Agency.

HISTORY

Atomic was created in 1989 by video game pioneer Keith Zabaloui and scored a Game of the Year award for its very first title, "V for Victory." Since then, Atomic has released more than a dozen titles, which have won many dozens of awards.

Atomic is often known for its Close Combat series, which helped launch the real-time strategy genre in the mid 1990s. Created by Atomic and published as one of Microsoft's first entries into video gaming, Close Combat sold over 1.2 million units and was named one of the “50 Best Games Ever” by PC Gamer in 1998, as well as one of the “Top 10 Strategy Games of All Time” in 2004 by Gamespy.

In 2003, Atomic released "Close Combat Marine," a sophisticated training tool for US Marine officers. It was the first game of commercial origin to be released for training throughout the Marine Corps. Close Combat Marine is still in use in the Marine Corps and has also been adapted for use by organizations around the world, including the US Military Academy at West Point.

Atomic Games was acquired by Destineer in 2005. As Destineer's business publishing casual games for consoles and handhelds began growing very rapidly, Destineer spun out Atomic as a well-funded independent development studio.
