Redster foundation Michaela Kirchgasser wrote the most touching story of this Alpine Ski World Championship. The 31-year-old rejoices over bronze in the Alpine Combination after a long season, in which she was always held back by knee problems." She is our world champion of hearts", Atomic Race Manager Christian Höflehner summarizes happily.
"Michi is known as an ever-smiling woman. She’s often not at all looking like struggling much and you don’t see amount of work behind her achievements. After all she’s been suffering through lately, this medal is a great reward. I admire her for doing it her way", says Christian Höflehner. Kirchgasser had made a good starting position with rank eleven in the Downhill and had catapulted herself into the medal ranks with the best run-time in the Slalom. In the end only 38 hundredths were missing to become World Champion. This is encouraging for the special Slalom, because some specialists have taken full risk and still stayed behind.
SOFIA GOGGIA: FULL THROTTLE TO BEING A FAVORITE
Michi herself couldn’t estimate her performance immediately after passing the finish line. "Actually, I thought that my two or three mistakes were just too much to achieve a podium at the World Champs.
I feared becoming fourth. But now the relief is all the greater." After the Slalom Silver 2013 and the Bronze in the Alpine Combination 2015, the Salzburg champion already achieved her third World Championship medal. One that shines even brighter this season due to the circumstances.
With Sofia Goggia another Atomic athlete was on the medal course until half time. The 24-year-old whizz-kid left all the speed competitors behind in the shortened Downhill race, but she was already out in the top section of the slalom. Race Manager Höflehner: "I trust she will retaliate in the Downhill race on Sunday. She certainly deserves it. "
Tomorrow the special Downhill will be on the agenda. Christian Höflehner sees the Redster unit in the extended favorite circle. "Especially Peter Fill likes this track, where you have to glide over the waves gently."
