SURPRISE PACKAGE TRAVIS AND PRODIGY MARCEL
Also in World Cup form are the Atomic Speed Men. Travis Ganong won the first Downhill race and Peter Fill is back in the red jersey of the world's fastest Downhill racer after places 2 and 3 in Garmisch, which he also wore at the start of this winter (three Downhill races to go). Höflehner: "Travis is our surprise package. Just as he took his heart in his hand, although his team colleague had an accident immediately before him and had to be carried away by a helicopter: sensational! I’m happy with the World Cup victory also for his new race tech, Lukas Rottinger."
Marcel Hirscher carved to the 43rd World Cup victory (the 20th Giant Slalom) in Garmisch in an "all-in run" in the final and impressive 1.5 seconds ahead. This means that three Crystal Globes have already come into play before the World Cup: in the Giant Slalom (94 points lead / 2 more races), Slalom (60/3) and the overall World Cup (432/10). "It looks very, very good. Marcel does the right thing: As long as it’s not 100% secured, there is no reason to rest on the statistics. And now we’ll have the peak of this season anyway. Reassuring for us that the setup works perfectly in his two strong disciplines", enthuses Christian Höflehner.
The World Cup will be held on Tuesday with the City Event for Women and Men in Stockholm, the last competition before the World Cup in St. Moritz.
