He is a silent hero, and still the world's best shooter in Biathlon: Simon Eder leads the current shooting statistics with an impressive score of 95% hits this season. That one missed shot in the 15k event at the Biathlon World Championships in Pokljuka might have cost “Sam” another individual medal, however, by no means does this affect his exceptional career rich of ups and downs. Eder, who will celebrate his 38th birthday on February 23, again is not returning from Pokljuka with empty hands, taking home silver in the mixed relay at the start of the World Champs – because “Silver Simon” is still a world-class athlete in his sport.

He unites all the positive attributes that characterize a world-class athlete: perseverance, instinct, professionalism, precision. At 38 years of age, Simon Eder is dazzling proof that you can set your own expiration date even in a performance sport like Biathlon. He has been on the national team since 1998, and 19 years ago he won his first gold medal at the Junior World Championships in Ridnaun. In between Simon has experienced all the ups and downs of a great career. He has won two Olympic medals and – including the latest from the mixed relay in Pokljuka – five World Championships medals. "As an athlete and as a person, ’Sam’ has been enriching the sport for so long. 4th place at a World Champs may seem unwanted at first, but it is still a very impressive feat," says Atomic Nordic Team Manager Peter Landl, impressed by Simon Eder, especially since he competed in all events at this World Champs. He adds: "And without this miss, which was unusual for him, he would have won another medal in the final 15k race."

Simon Eder is a key figure on the Atomic team. A role model for young athletes like the Slovenian Miha Dovzan, who performed strongly at the World Championships in Pokljuka with places 8 and 18. The IBU Biathlon World Cup continues in Nove Mesto at the beginning of March.
