Hanna Falk

The Swede Hanna Falk knows what ups and downs are like. They’ve lined her career like trees along an avenue. Hanna is a tough one. She temporarily lost part of her vision, and then a mysterious bacterial infection set her back a long way. Winter 2017/18 seemed to be a turning point for the best. On January 13 at the sprint in Dresden Hanna managed the 3rd World Cup win in her career, exactly 7 years and 361 days after her second one. No cross-country skier has had to wait longer from one win to the next one. At the Olympic Games 5th place wasn’t enough for a medal, but it was still the best season’s result in the classic technique. She would have also earned a chance in the relay but was kicked out twice by the team lead. A bit of a low blow which robbed her of her motivation, but only for a few days. Then the sprint princess pulled herself together and sprinted to her fourth World Cup win at the final in Falun. What can we learn from this? Success is about getting up one more time than you fall down.
