The Atomic Nordic Department got off to a great start at the Cross Country World Cup opening in Ruka, Finland. In both sprint competitions as well as in the pursuit the podium was in reach for three Redster aces.

The sprint specialist Kahtrine Rolsted Harsem delivered the best performance. The 28 year old came in 8th in the qualifying, didn’t leave anything to chance in the quarter and semi-finals where she came in second place for the classic technique, to finish 5th in the final only 3.5 seconds down. With her third best result in her career Harsem left all the other Norwegian favourites behind her, who mostly failed to make it through the qualifying rounds. Hanna Falk, the Redster sure bet for success last season, came in 2nd place in the qualifying round and proved she is in great shape early in the season. But then she was unlucky in the quarter final heat where she came in third and then had to be content with 13th place.

The season’s opener in the Men’s Sprint also looked very promising. In the qualifying round Sondre Turvoll-Fossli came in 12th place, didn’t show any weaknesses in the quarter and semi-finals (came in 2nd place), just like his colleague Harsem, and then dropped back in the final and came in 6th. This was the 15th Top 10 result for the 24 year old.
In the 15k pursuit race Simen Hegstad Krueger showed ambitions for a ticket to the Olympics and place on the podium. The 24 year old showed his true skating potential and came in 7th – only 13 seconds behind the best time.
