TOP-TACTICIAN TORD: LAST MAN STANDING IN THE FINISH
A week ago at the La Diagonela race in the Swiss Engadin region the cross country titan missed out on his first win of the season by only 8 seconds. This time though the doctor-to-be who always races with his mirrored pilot sunnies defended his victory from last year thanks to a masterly tactical performance. Up to the legendary last climb Cascata 28 athletes were running in the leading group and it looked a lot like tour-leader Petter Eliassen is in full control of the race and intending to clear out on the final climb. However Tord Asle Gjerdalen not only had an objection against that plan but also the better power mangement for the last section of the race. Over the last 600 meters he was the stronger man on the track and won in the sprint with a 6 second margin. In the overall rankings he was also able to close in on leader Eliassen trailing now only by 80 points.
