What an impressive race to catch up for Simen Hegstad Krueger: the Redster double Olympic champion gave everything in the final lap of the Falun 15k freestyle individual start, the last important test before the Nordic World Ski Championships. And he almost caught winner Alexander Bolshunov at the finish line – photo finish! Anyway, placing 2nd clearly proved: the Atomic superstar is ready for the World Champs and so is his new Redster rocket S9 Gen S...
There will be just one more sprint weekend in Sweden, and that’s pretty much it before the Nordic World Ski Championships get underway on February 23 in Oberstdorf (the best cross-country athletes will skip the World Cup in Nove Mesto shortly before the event’s kick-off). In this respect, Falun was the last important test for the Redster Nordic unit.
Atomic superstar Simen Hegstad Krueger, most recently 4th despite crashing and losing time in the Lahti skiathlon, demonstrated in the 15k freestyle individual start that he is in top shape for the World Championships: he was the only one able to keep up with the outstanding Russian Alexander Bolshunov until the very end. After a heroic comeback on the final lap, he was beaten by a mere 1.8 seconds at the finish line. Simen was extremely happy with both his 2nd place and with his top equipment. Atomic Nordic Manager Peter Landl: "What we saw today is very promising for the upcoming World Championships."
“This time, on the winding track, the Redster S9 Gen S’ competitive edge became even more evident.”
Overall, the Atomic athletes did very well in Falun: In the women’s 10k freestyle individual start, Tiril Udnes Weng finished 7th, twin sister Lotta 11th, and Victoria Karl posted an impressive 14th-place finish coming back to the tour after a torn ligament. In the sprint, Johanna Hagstroem and Tiril Udnes Weng, who had won the prologue, finished 4th and 5th in the finals. Peter Landl: "We now hope that this will get Johanna a World Cup ticket in the strong Swedish team." Only Evgenij Belov seemed to be a bit tired in Falun, after an exhausting season and his strong performance in the Tour de Ski.
Ermil Vokuev, Atomic star at the “Visma Ski Classics”, in contrast, presented himself very well rested at the Marcialonga in Italy: 3rd place by just 2.7 seconds after 70 kilometers. He is also in 3rd place in the Tour ranking.
