The skimountaineering season is slowly finding an end, and yet the Atomic athletes are getting better and better in the ISMF World Cup. With the Backland UL 65 skis under their feet, they achieved in the main categories three results on the podium in the individual and in the sprint race this weekend.

VICTORY IN THE INDIVIDUAL RACE

The individual race on the first day with undesirable weather and difficult snow conditions brought a victory immediately. Damiano Lenzi from Italy, the rocket of the season, fixed a start-finish victory. "I’m in a really good shape at the moment, I constantly had today’s race under control. I’m very happy about my victory."

RANK 2 AND 3 IN SPRINT RACE

In the sprint race on the second day of competition it looked as if Damiano Lenzi would win once again. Usually it is his weakest and least-liked discipline, but his physical shape is still at a high level and offers the all-round-talent another possibility for a spot on the podium also in the sprint race. In the final run, he arrived at the decisive last change in leading position, but he had problems to get into the binding shortly before the descent.

Two further Backland-athletes stepped into the breach immediately and took away a lot of World Cup points. Swiss Iwan Arnold, beat only by a few centimeters, landed on the second rank and, therefore, is third in the overall World Cup. Austrian Daniel Zugg finished with a third rank and achieved his first World Cup podium ever.

Zugg to his sensational run: "After a good rank nine in the World Championships sprint race, I prepared myself especially for this race including a special pair of Atomic Rocker skins. That worked. I already achieved the fourth time in the qualification run, and I could recall that speed after some exhausting runs again in the final. Clearly, I am super happy with this successful weekend."

FURTHER RESULTS ON THE PODIUM IN THE YOUTH CATEGORIES

Pleasing are also the result of the Backland-athletes in the youth categories of the individual race. French Samuel Equy wins in the Espoir category and Spanish Julia Cuiaran Casanovas achieves rank three in the Junior category.

GRANDE COURSE AND LAST WORLD CUP STATION

The skimountaineers are moving to another location now. The participants of the “La Grande Course” race series are competing at the Adamello Ski Raid in Italy next weekend, and the ISMF World Cup will be closed in two weeks in the Spanish Val d’Aran.
