MIKAELA AND MARCEL: A PARALLEL EXERCISE TOWARDS THE HALL OF FAME
No doubt: Mikaela Shiffrin has now reached the peak after Olympic gold and three World Championship titles. And yet it will only be an intermediate stop as she’s still on a roll.
With now 31 World Cup victories, she already ranks 9th on the everlasting leaderboard. By comparison, Lindsey Vonn had won four World Cup races on her 22nd birthday. Christian Höflehner: "Mikaela is unique. And yet I recognize parallels to Marcel Hirscher. Especially in terms of learning processes as well as the medium and long-term strategy. She also liked to expand her repertoire to the speed disciplines. But then she noticed that this step physically demands a lot. So she was increasingly relying on her own strengths. This is a path that has also led Marcel to lasting success."
Before the start of the World Cup in Aspen, the season balance already shines in the most beautiful red tones. Twelve World Championship medals for the Redster crew, four World Cup Globes have already been secured, another is ready to be picked up. And Peter Fill and Tina Weirather are fighting for more trophies on Wednesday (Men's Downhill) and Thursday (Ladies Super-G). The 35-year-old South Tyrolean will focus on a successful title defense, the 27-year-old lady from Liechtenstein chases her first Crystal Globe.
