The ISMF ski mountaineering World Cup final 2021 took place in the Italian village of Madonna di Campiglio last weekend. After a season full of vast and successful coronavirus measures it was possible for the Backland athletes to prove themselves once more and to end the season successfully in all disciplines. Above all Davide Magnini, who placed 2nd in the vertical and the individual race, managed to put together the last building block for a 3rd place in the Overall World Cup, as well as a 2nd place in the Individual World Cup and a 3rd place in the Vertical World Cup.

18 WINS, 8 MEDALS, 2 GLOBES! THANK YOU, REDSTER TEAM – YOU’RE AWESOME!

All's well that ends well. On the very last race day the Atomic team finished out the season in the same mood that has been predominant throughout most of the winter: thrilled to the gills! About? Manuel Feller's second Slalom World Cup victory. And Marco Schwarz’ first globe, for instance. And even the fact that Mikaela Shiffrin's 70th World Cup victory has been postponed to next season did not dampen the spirits in any way – she finished 2nd just a week after her 26th birthday. In an extraordinary 2020-2021 season, the Redster athletes took home a total of 18 World Cup victories plus eight World Champs medals. They scored 45 podiums in 66 races, and achieved 65 top 5 and 111 top 10 results. Time to recap a season one could call successful simply because it took place at all ...

GRAND FINALE: SIMEN WINS, HUGO IS THE WORLD'S BEST U23 ATHLETE

It was a grand finale to an outstanding season in an extraordinary winter: in the Atomic Nordic unit’s final race of the season Redster superstar Simen Hegstad Krueger was the first to cross the finish line taking the win home! After claiming three medals at the Nordic World Ski Championships and even though he had started the season late, the Atomic athlete ended up in 3rd place in the distance ranking. This is the era of the new Redster S9 Gen S that has exceeded all expectations ever since it was launched. Used in secret already last year, Atomic’s latest race ski as well as the team’s mindset and spirit have given everybody wings: Following his U23 World Champs title Frenchman Hugo Lapalus also won the World Cup ranking in his age category, completing the season as the world’s best U23 athlete. And the top women on Atomic have also made a big step towards the world elite this winter ...

“BLACKY“ WINS HIS SLALOM GLOBE – THRILLING FINALS FOR SOFIA, MIKAELA

Cool as ice on the race course, a gentleman off skis – modest, friendly, smart. In the winter following his comeback (torn ACL), Marco Schwarz cracked the jackpot and gave the skiing world an idea of what to expect of him in the future: he’s the World champion in the Combination, has won bronze in the World Champs’ GS; and now, after an outstanding season and despite severe back problems, he skied solidly in Kranjska Gora, locking in the Slalom crystal globe. An impressive feat, however: he is not performing at his peak yet. While "Blacky" can head to the Finals in Lenzerheide all relaxed, teammates Mikaela Shiffrin and Sofia Goggia are still involved in a thrilling race for crystal globes – hopefully with a happy ending …

WOW, 9 MEDALS! SENSATIONAL WORLD CHAMPS FOR REDSTER NORDIC TEAM

What an impressive feat! At the Nordic World Ski Championships in Oberstdorf the Redster Nordic Team claimed medals in almost all events that saw Atomic athletes with medal chances compete. A tremendous outcome with nine World Championship medals and superstar Simen Hegstad Krueger on the podium in each of his races: silver in the Skiathlon, silver in the 15k freestyle, bronze in the 50k classic mass start on the final day! A success story also owed to the Atomic ski developers and tech crews who designed the new Redster S9 Gen S racing model – rounded out by six further “team player medals” that made the Nordic Redster stars shine in Oberstdorf.

MIKAELA SHIFFRIN: SLALOM GLOBE WITHIN REACH ON HOME STRETCH

She has been and will remain ski racing’s brightest figure: Mikaela Shiffrin’s win in Jasna marked her 45th career slalom victory. Since 2012, the superstar on the Atomic team has been the measure of all things in her favorite discipline and a role model for a whole generation of athletes. Her competitors have caught up, no doubt about it. Yet Mikaela apparently still has that unique speed that lets her win a race like in Jasna as she likes – and within just a few gates. Coming back this winter after the hardest time of her life she gradually reconnected with the best version of herself. With three more Slaloms to come and 45 points to catch up Mikaela is sure to keep fans on the edge of their seats: will she grab the slalom globe on this season’s home stretch?

Within the skiing scene he is a silent star, but on the Atomic team he is an outstanding figure: Croatian Filip Zubcic, silver medalist at the World Championships’ parallel event, keeps this season’s battle for the GS crystal bowl exciting until the very end. In the first GS at Bansko, Bulgaria, he celebrated his third World Cup victory, but then lost ground again to overall leader Alexis Pinturault, finishing 14th in race no. 2. Winning four medals in all of her four 2021 World Champs starts, super woman Mikaela Shiffrin added more pages to her jam-packed record book: she has claimed 11 medals in 13 World Champs races so far, 6 of them gold. AT 38, “SILVER SIMON” IS STILL WORLD CLASS IN BIATHLON

He is a silent hero, and still the world's best shooter in Biathlon: Simon Eder leads the current shooting statistics with an impressive score of 95% hits this season. That one missed shot in the 15k event at the Biathlon World Championships in Pokljuka might have cost “Sam” another individual medal, however, by no means does this affect his exceptional career rich of ups and downs. SIMEN STRONG IN SKIATHLON ON NEW REDSTER MODEL – 4TH DESPITE CRASH

One might read the official results list of the 30k skiathlon in Lahti like this: “Barely missed the podium!” What is not noted, though: Atomic superstar Simen Hegstad Krueger had practically grabbed a podium spot – up to that infamous “Lahti Curve” shortly before the finish, where the double Olympic champion unfortunately crashed. Taking 4th place, despite this mishap, is quite an accomplishment; especially since it was the first race in a long time in which the entire world elite including Norway was finally back at the start. Besides, for the first time Simen officially raced on the new Atomic performance model Redster S9 Gen-S, which he had only used in secret so far ...

In this somewhat improvised pandemic winter everyone is focused on the World Champs: the season’s highlights will kick off in Pokljuka on February 10 (biathletes) and in Oberstdorf on February 23 (Nordic athletes). It’s great news that the Redster team is increasingly stepping up its game: Fabian Riessle and Lukas Greiderer were again among the top performers at the Nordic Combined World Cup in Val di Fiemme. The Atomic biathlete duo Benjamin Weger and Simon Eder impressed with strong performances in Oberhof, while Atomic’s Norwegians demonstrated on home turf that they are ready for medals.

Atomic Nordic Race Manager Peter Landl's prediction for the Tour de Ski was pretty accurate: in absence of the Norwegian superstars his team had some strong moments at the 2021 Tour de Ski. Evgenij Belov finished the season’s first highlight in 6th place, despite major challenges; Hugo Lapalus landed in 10th and is now leading the Cross-Country World Cup’s U23 rankings. ONE TEAM, 7 REDSTER WINNERS – AND ALEKSANDER BACK IN RED!

The greatest skill in ski racing? Good team building. The Redster team might not be the largest in the World Cup, but its lineup is definitely outstanding. Starting with early talent scouting up to the world elite’s top stars, there’s quality at every level. In the 23 races so far this season (13 men’s, 10 women’s), Atomic athletes have finished on the podium 19 times, and the team has amassed eight wins for seven different racers: Mikaela Shiffrin, Sofia Goggia, Ester Ledecka, Lucas Braathen, Filip Zubcic, Mauro Caviezel, and Aleksander Aamodt Kilde. The latter lead the World Cup rankings in Super-G and Downhill, while Aleksander is back in the red bib as the overall World Cup leader.

WHAT A WEEKEND FOR ATOMIC: 5 SPEED EVENTS, 4 WINS! THANK YOU, ALEKS, SOFIA, ESTER

The best Christmas presents are … on the finish line! This weekend, Gröden and Val d´Isère were the scenes of yet more exciting Redster shows. Aleksander Aamodt Kilde won both Super G (ahead of Atomic buddy Mauro Caviezel) and Downhill at the World Cup classics in Val Gardena. Finishing 6th in the Alta Badia GS, the reigning overall World Cup champion has regained his pace in every discipline. At the same time, the Redster speed ladies rounded out the impressive Atomic team performance in Val d'Isère. Sofia Goggia dominated the two Downhills, winning one and racing to 2nd place in the other – Breezy Johnson celebrated two third places. MAGICAL MOMENTS FOR MIKAELA, MAURO – COMEBACK HYPE AFTER MARCEL’S FUN RUN

Impressive, touching, inspiring: the Atomic athletes are filling this all-too-silent season without the boisterous crowds with big emotions. In the Courchevel GS, Mikaela Shiffrin made her triumphant return to the top of podium after her father’s sudden passing and the most difficult time in her life so far – released and moving the whole skiing community to tears. The second magical moment belonged to “Mr. Recovery” Mauro Caviezel, who just seems to get faster pretty much every time after recovering from an injury. This time the Super-G World Cup winner snagged the victory in Val d´Isère coming back from an Achilles tendon rupture – ahead of Atomic buddy Adrian Smiseth Sejersted who landed in 2nd (also a returnee to the Word Cup circuit). HOW TO FIND THE RIGHT SKI BOOT SIZE

When you buy ski boots, you lay the foundation of a great skiing experience. The right ski boot should fit comfortably, providing a firm hold to the foot while reliably transmitting power and steering impulses from the skier to the ski. The wrong boot can spoil the fun of skiing. It gives the ski a „life of its own“ and causes pressure points and often enough results in cold feet. This is as important for beginners as it is for advanced skiers and experts. Quite frankly, putting some extra thought in choosing the right ski boot is worth the effort!

The final stages of the 2019-20 World Cup season are in full swing and they are not for the faint-hearted. One guy definitely had nerves of steel all winter long: Mauro Caviezel. With top 5 results in all Super-G races this winter, he had the consistency it takes to bring home his first crystal globe. While Mauro benefitted from the cancellation of the season’s last Super-G in Kvitfjell, World Cup leader Aleksander Aamodt Kilde surely would have preferred to race on Sunday in front of his home crowd. Thanks to his strong 2nd place in Saturday’s downhill he regained the lead in the overall by 54 points over Alexis Pinturault. In the last two races in Kranjska Gora, however, he will realistically only be able to score in the GS. So things are very tense up until the last race.

MARCEL SECURES GS CRYSTAL GLOBE AND SOFIA’S WITH US UNTIL OLYMPIC GAMES 2022

Race intelligence is about making the right decisions at the right moment, even if they are risky ones. Marcel Hirscher’s start in the Combined in Bansko was a risky decision (see Marco Schwarz, who suffered a serious knee injury after a questionable jump near the finish). But they were the right decisions and important: second place in the Combined, second place in the GS, Marcel has secured the small Crystal Globe in the GS early (for the sixth time in his career) and keeps the upper hand in the Overall World Cup a solid 490 points in the lead. Even more great news for the Atomic team with a double win in the Ladies Downhill in Crans Montana! Sofia Goggia won her first race since her comeback, ahead of Redster colleague Joana Haehlen.
