It was so important for Marcel Hirscher and the whole Atomic team that the Redster superstar could compete in the first race of the season again after fracturing his ankle while training in fall. And it was satisfying to see his comeback taking his training deficit into account. It’s also very encouraging to see that the Redster plan of one podium place per race also brought about the right result again! Mikaela Shiffrin was second and Mattias Hargin third.
POSITIVE RESULT AFTER HIRSCHER COMEBACK IN LEVI
For Marcel Hirscher, who decided to start his comeback in Levi at the last minute, this was an especially important indicator: “The positive surprise in the first run was as meaningful as the drop back from 4th to 17th place after the second one. I’m happy that I was able to start and now know how much I still need to do” he said after the race. His schedule: “the best possible compromise between physio and compensating for my lack of training”.
This time Matthias Hargin compensated for it by taking Marcel’s regular place on the podium in Levi with an excellent second run for third place and the best result for the Atomic slalom unit. Marco Schwarz started his Olympic winter in 13th place, and the Swiss racer Marc Rochat came in 19th. Atomic Race Manager Höflehner said “Not everything went according to plan in Levi but we did see that the ground-speed within our team is right. Manuel Feller and Marc Dygruber didn’t finish, but they also did really well”.
“The first races of the season always have their own characteristics. Every individual has his or her own way and own speed for getting back into race mode again.”
MIKAELA SHIFFRIN IS BACK IN LEADER’S RED AGAIN
He believes the Redster super lady Mikaela Shiffrin ”has potential which she will use in the next race“, despite her 2nd place this time. For her home race over in the US Mikaela will be wearing the leader’s red bib again. Michaela Kirchgasser also had a good comeback in Levi, and Katharina Huber and Katharina Gallhuber collected World Cup points in the race too.
