Last weekend, the ISMF Skimountaineering World Cup started in Bischofshofen, Austria. Already in the first competition of the season, the sprint race, Atomic athlete Iwan Arnold was able to finish on the second place. Further top-rankings and outstanding performances completed a successful weekend.

The prelude to the Skimountaineering World Cup 2019 almost could not have turned out better. In one sprint and one individual race respectively, and under the best possible conditions, the Atomic Backland athletes demonstrated fantastic performances. Above all, Switzerland’s Iwan Arnold climbed the podium and finished second. Austria’s Daniel Zugg also showed a top-performance with a sixth place. In the individual race on the second day at Bischofshofen, the Austrian Atomic athletes in particular were present with good rankings. Armin Höfl reached rank 9, and in the Junior class, Austrian Paul Verbnjak finished his World Cup debut on a tenth place. French Samuel Equy reached an overall rank 12 on the long track and, at the same time, collected a victory in the Espoir class.

Iwan Arnold
The Swiss athlete is very content with his race weekend and is now looking forward to the just started season: “The performance in the sprint race on Friday provided evidence for my superb form, also in the individual race, I could achieve a good rank for me with the seventeenth place. I’m heading into the right direction for the future, so far I was able to improve in every race, I hope it will go on like that.”

Daniel Zugg
The sixth rank of Daniel Zugg from Vorarlberg demonstrated his potential impressively. „The sixth place is more than I had expected for the first World Cup of the season, I am close to the world elite. Now, it will be going on rapidly, first with the World Cup in Andorra, then with the World Championships.”

Armin Höfl
The Styrian athlete was more than happy with his ranking in the top-ten in the individual race: „I am glad to have confirmed my good performance of the last races. It was an extreme match against the world elite which took place on the last meters here in the stadium, pure gooseflesh on this unique track.” Virtually without a break, the Atomic athletes are now going to the next World Cup event in Andorra from the 26th to the 27th of January 2019.
