This year, at the World Championships in Oslo, the talented Redster-athlete was a regular in the relay team and played her part in winning gold. Atomic-teammates Julian Eberhard (AT) and Dominik Windisch (IT) closely missed out on the medals and finished in 4th place with the Austrian relay team and the mass start event. The French Redster-athlete Aurèlie Dabudyk had reason to celebrate at the Engadin Skimarathon with a thrilling 5th place finish.
Another great day in the life of one of the future stars in the Atomic Nordic Team. Fanny Horn Birkeland last Saturday crowned herself World Champion in the Women’s Relay-event at her home Games in Oslo. Together with her Norwegian teammates she finally captured gold adding to her impressive medal collection. Next to her relay bronze-medals at the Olympics in Sochi and at the World Championships in Ruhpolding and Kontiolahti and five more national medals the gold now at the World Championships shines ever so bright in her Oslo flat. Fanny also made herself a belated birthday present: On the 8th of March she turned 28.
FANNY HORN BIRKELAND: WORLD CHAMPION AS A REGULAR STARTER IN OSLO
After capturing two bronze medals as an alternate at major events with her relay-team Fanny was a regular this time in her hometown Oslo where this year’s Biathlon-World Championhsips took place. And she returned from the Holmenkollen-stadium to her nearby flat as a newly crowned World Champion. Another big day for Fanny, like the one on 16th of January 2015 when she celebrated her first ever World Cup victory in the Biathlon-sprint of Ruhpolding. Thanks to a perfect run and shooting performance she was able to distance the three-time Olympic Champion Darja Domratschewa from Belarus. 11.500 fans witnessed her feat. A little less were on-site on the 8th of August 2015 – another big day in her life - when Fanny got married to the Norwegian biathlete Lars Helge Birkeland. Last year the couple was even able to win the national Championships in the Sprint on the same day.
