Ski poles should be chosen to match one’s height (A). A simple formula for this is (A) x 0.7.
Another way to determine the appropriate alpine-skiing pole length is a practical test. To do this, simply flip the ski pole upside down with the grip on the floor and the top of your hand touching the basket (the disc-like object above the tip). If the grips are now on the ground, one’s forearm and upper arm should form a right angle. This accounts for the fact that the ski pole will sink into the ground as far as the basket allows.
The below table shows length orientation values for adults. When in doubt, choose the longer pole length, as the pole shaft can be shortened easily.
