How to determine your correct ski length

​When choosing the right ski length, there are a couple of factors you need to take into consideration. The most important are your height, weight, ability level, and the type of skiing you plan to do.​

​As a general guideline, choose a ski that reaches somewhere between your chin and the top of your head (or, for some skis, slightly above your head). A shorter ski makes shorter turns and is typically easier to maneuver at lower speeds, while a longer ski will have a longer turn radius and generally offers greater stability and confidence at higher speeds.​

​Taller, heavier, and more advanced skiers often prefer slightly longer skis because they have more leverage over the ski. Shorter, lighter people and less-experienced skiers will usually feel more comfortable with the agility of a shorter ski.​

​The recommendations below provide a general starting point for choosing the right ski length within Atomic's ski range. Individual preferences, ski models, and intended terrain may influence the ideal length.​

Touring

Fast & Light

Fast & Light touring skis are built for covering ground efficiently. To keep the ski light and agile – both on the descent and on the way up – endurance tourers should choose a ski that is 5 to 10 cm shorter than their height.​

All-Round

All-round touring skis balance uphill performance with versatile descent capability. A ski around 5 cm shorter than your height gives all-round tourers a ski that stays manageable on the climb without compromising too much on the way down.​

Freeride

Freeride touring skis are designed for skiers who want big-mountain performance with the freedom to earn their turns. Advanced and expert skiers, or heavier skiers, should choose a ski that matches their height or measures up to 5 cm longer for maximum floatation and stability. Lighter skiers or those with less experience in demanding terrain may prefer a ski that matches their height or is up to 5 cm shorter for easier handling.​
