In Andorra in midst the Pyrenees, the Backland athletes had a successful continuation in the ISMF Skimountaineering-season. Davide Magnini finished 4th in the individual race, which equals the victory in the Espoir category. Armin Höfl took rank 4 in the vertical race and was invited to the price giving ceremony for the first time in his career.
The second World Cup location Andorra turned out to be a good place for the Atomic athletes. Already in the individual race on Saturday, the 21-year-old Italian Davide Magnini reached the fourth place – at the same time the victory in the Espoir category – which was a very gratifying success. In the vertical race on Sunday, Austria’s Armin Höfl finished 5th, his best World Cup result so far. French Samuel Equy also met all the expectations with rank 2 in the category Espoir.
The young Italian could show his strengths in the individual race, even though he is not yet completely fit: „My legs were super strong, unfortunately, this did not match my overall condition. Every time I tried to push harder, there came a strong irritation of my throat and I had to give in.” Due to these problems, Magnini could not make use of his full abilities on Sunday in his favorite discipline vertical either. He had to content himself with rank 19, respectively the 4th place in the Espoir category.
After his 14th place on the individual, the Austrian athlete had not expected that the World Cup race on Sunday would end so well for him: „Despite a slight cold I could catch up very well in the last third, I passed some competitors in the steeper passages, and finally I ran into the finish as the fifth.” Now, he is looking forward to the upcoming competitions and is working towards a top-10 result in France.
The Austrian athlete Daniel Zugg reached one further, personal top-rank with the 11th place in the vertical race. His problems with his shoulder after the crash in one of the World Cup races at Bischofshofen/Austria did not play such a big role in the vertical race, but more in the individual, where he remained behind the expectations. The Atomic Backland athletes are now directly going to the next World Cup in Le Dévouly/France from the 2nd to the 3rd of February 2019.
