FEB 23, 2017
The ISMF World Championships are kicking off on February 24, 2017 in the Italian villages Alpago and Piancavallo.
In the course of the season, the Atomic Backland Skimountaineers were able to achieve outstanding results with their Backland UL 65 skis and the rocker skins - and they are ready for more. The athletes will be diving into the Skimountaineering World Whampionships with optimized material and also the brand new Revent FDL HD-ski goggles will assure that they keep the perspective also in difficult light conditions.
DAMIANO LENZI (ITA)
Lenzi has shown several times during the season that he is in an amazing physical shape and that he is determined to succeed at the world championships at his home country. Lenzi did not join the last world cup race in Turkey; instead, he prepared for the highlight of the season. Especially in the individual race, he has high chances of winning. But after winning the Transcavallo-race last weekend, which took place on the original course of the World Championships, he is also a considered favorite in the team race. Lenzi will be competing in the vertical race as well, and a participation in the relay is likely.
MIREIA MIRO (ESP)
For Miro, the podium is definitely accessible after steadily improving her fitness during the season. Especially in the individual and in the team race, her chances are best. It can be expected that the enormously experienced athlete will be in perfect physical shape for the World Championships.
IWAN ARNOLD (SUI)
Next to his leading discipline sprint, in which he wants to reach the podium, Arnold might participate in all races of the World Championships. He might also stand a chance in the relay competition with the strong sprint team of Switzerland.
DANIEL ZUGG AND ARMIN HÖFL (AUT)
Only Armin Höfl will compete in the individual race, as Daniel Zugg skips the first event of the championships. The two are planning to participate in the team race as an Atomic-tandem then. For the vertical race and the relays, both are nominated as well.
TONI LAUTENBACHER (GER)
After long-lasting health issues, the German athlete had his first race last weekend and is not in top form yet. It is likely that he will concentrate on the short competitions vertical race, sprint, and relay.
SAMUEL EQUY (FRA)
Equy plans to compete in the individual and in the vertical race, where he has chances to win a medal in the Espoir-category.
We should not forget to direct our eyes on John Gaston (USA) who fully focused his preparation on the battle with the top European athletes and also take a look onto the Backland-athletes in the junior competitions (junior and cadet), who also want to show what they can do.
