SPEED QUEEN SOFIA: QUATTRO STAZIONE WINNING STREAK, 1-2-3 CLEAN SWEEP
Val d´Isère, St. Anton, Crans Montana, Crans Montana: Redster speed queen Sofia Goggia currently skis in a league of her own – four Downhill races, four straight wins. A dominance that inspires the entire Redster team: in Crans Montana, Sofia led the first triple success for Atomic in a long time, ahead of Ester Ledecka and Breezy Johnson. "Our ladies’ performances make us feel a lot better, now that we’re quite challenged with all those injuries on the men's speed team lately,” says Atomic Race Manager Christian Höflehner.
SIMEN STRONG IN SKIATHLON ON NEW REDSTER MODEL – 4TH DESPITE CRASH
One might read the official results list of the 30k skiathlon in Lahti like this: “Barely missed the podium!” What is not noted, though: Atomic superstar Simen Hegstad Krueger had practically grabbed a podium spot – up to that infamous “Lahti Curve” shortly before the finish, where the double Olympic champion unfortunately crashed. Taking 4th place, despite this mishap, is quite an accomplishment; especially since it was the first race in a long time in which the entire world elite including Norway was finally back at the start. Besides, for the first time Simen officially raced on the new Atomic performance model Redster S9 Gen-S, which he had only used in secret so far ...
CAREER-FIRST VICTORY FOR “FAIRY TALE PRINCE“ MANUEL – GET WELL SOON, ALEKS!
In this pandemic winter it is the excitement the World Cup season brings that helps regain a bit of normality – and every weekend is an emotional rollercoaster for the Atomic team: Mikaela Shiffrin being all smiles after taking the win in the Flachau Slalom; then the bad news that reigning overall World Cup champ Aleksander Aamodt Kilde’s season is over; followed by the joy around “fairy tale prince” Manuel Feller’s first World Cup victory in Flachau; and finally the slalom thriller between him and Redster buddy Marco Schwarz – not for the faint-hearted ...
ATOMIC WEEKEND: NORWEGIANS, BIATHLETES, COMBINED ATHLETES FIT FOR WORLD CHAMPS
In this somewhat improvised pandemic winter everyone is focused on the World Champs: the season’s highlights will kick off in Pokljuka on February 10 (biathletes) and in Oberstdorf on February 23 (Nordic athletes). It’s great news that the Redster team is increasingly stepping up its game: Fabian Riessle and Lukas Greiderer were again among the top performers at the Nordic Combined World Cup in Val di Fiemme. The Atomic biathlete duo Benjamin Weger and Simon Eder impressed with strong performances in Oberhof, while Atomic’s Norwegians demonstrated on home turf that they are ready for medals.
MAVERICK & MAVEN: THE STORY OF A NEW ALL-MOUNTAIN SKI
DEVELOPED, TESTED, AND VALIDATED IN NORTH AMERICA, WHERE EVERY MOUNTAIN ATTRACTS A DIFFERENT TYPE OF SKIER AND A STYLE THAT REQUIRES UNIQUE CHARACTERISTICS IN AN ALL-TERRAIN SKI - MAVERICK AND MAVEN UNITE ALL MOUNTAINS AND SKIERS.
EVGENIJ: 6TH PLACE AT THE TOUR DE SKI – HUGO IS U23 WORLD CUP LEADER
Atomic Nordic Race Manager Peter Landl's prediction for the Tour de Ski was pretty accurate: in absence of the Norwegian superstars his team had some strong moments at the 2021 Tour de Ski. Evgenij Belov finished the season’s first highlight in 6th place, despite major challenges; Hugo Lapalus landed in 10th and is now leading the Cross-Country World Cup’s U23 rankings. Valentin Chauvin sprinted into the world elite twice, while Janosch Brugger and Jonas Baumann also delivered top performances.
"BLACKY" TAKES CAREER-FIRST SLALOM VICTORY, TACKLING "CLASSIC TRIPLE" IN RED BIB
He has always kept at it, calm yet determined, even after his cruciate ligament rupture. Now his patience has paid off: Marco Schwarz, the Atomic athlete known for spectacularly fast turns, has achieved a personal milestone, grabbing his career-first World Cup victory on the “Chuenisbärgli” in Adelboden. Wengen – Kitzbühel – Schladming: Marco tackles the “classic triple” 2021 in the red bib. Will he fire the “Blacky rocket”?
ONE TEAM, 7 REDSTER WINNERS – AND ALEKSANDER BACK IN RED!
The greatest skill in ski racing? Good team building. The Redster team might not be the largest in the World Cup, but its lineup is definitely outstanding. Starting with early talent scouting up to the world elite’s top stars, there’s quality at every level. In the 23 races so far this season (13 men’s, 10 women’s), Atomic athletes have finished on the podium 19 times, and the team has amassed eight wins for seven different racers: Mikaela Shiffrin, Sofia Goggia, Ester Ledecka, Lucas Braathen, Filip Zubcic, Mauro Caviezel, and Aleksander Aamodt Kilde. The latter lead the World Cup rankings in Super-G and Downhill, while Aleksander is back in the red bib as the overall World Cup leader.
OH NO, FRANZ-JOSEF: TORN ACL! OH YES, TEAM: REALLY STRONG!
This past race weekend was a rollercoaster of emotions for the Atomic Nordic unit. Franz-Josef Rehrl was meant to finish on the podium in the Nordic Combined World Cup on home turf in Ramsau am Dachstein. Instead, he ended up in the OR after a mega jump in the trials – cruciate ligament rupture, season over. Cold comfort: from his hospital bed in Linz he watched his Atomic buddies perform strongly – 3rd place for Lukas Greiderer in the first and Fabian Riessle in the second Ramsau race. And there is also sensational news from biathlon evergreen Simon Eder’s performance at his home World Cup in Hochfilzen: 50 shots, 50 hits, nobody shoots as well as he does!
As expected the first two World Cup competitions of the skimountaineering season took place under difficult conditions influenced by the extensive COVID prevention regulations. In Ponte di Legno in northern Italy the Atomic athletes were performing well in a sprint and in a vertical race.
WHAT A WEEKEND FOR ATOMIC: 5 SPEED EVENTS, 4 WINS! THANK YOU, ALEKS, SOFIA, ESTER
The best Christmas presents are … on the finish line! This weekend, Gröden and Val d´Isère were the scenes of yet more exciting Redster shows. Aleksander Aamodt Kilde won both Super G (ahead of Atomic buddy Mauro Caviezel) and Downhill at the World Cup classics in Val Gardena. Finishing 6th in the Alta Badia GS, the reigning overall World Cup champion has regained his pace in every discipline. At the same time, the Redster speed ladies rounded out the impressive Atomic team performance in Val d'Isère. Sofia Goggia dominated the two Downhills, winning one and racing to 2nd place in the other – Breezy Johnson celebrated two third places. Ester Ledecka almost canceled the Super G due to severe stomach problems, but decided to start at the last second and triumphed ten days after her victory in the Snowboard World Cup.
MAGICAL MOMENTS FOR MIKAELA, MAURO – COMEBACK HYPE AFTER MARCEL’S FUN RUN
Impressive, touching, inspiring: the Atomic athletes are filling this all-too-silent season without the boisterous crowds with big emotions. In the Courchevel GS, Mikaela Shiffrin made her triumphant return to the top of podium after her father’s sudden passing and the most difficult time in her life so far – released and moving the whole skiing community to tears. The second magical moment belonged to “Mr. Recovery” Mauro Caviezel, who just seems to get faster pretty much every time after recovering from an injury. This time the Super-G World Cup winner snagged the victory in Val d´Isère coming back from an Achilles tendon rupture – ahead of Atomic buddy Adrian Smiseth Sejersted who landed in 2nd (also a returnee to the Word Cup circuit). You think there is no way to top off these magical comeback moments? Well, maybe there is … if it bears the name Marcel Hirscher, who was seen laying down some GS turns in an eye-catching tailor-made race suit, triggering a global skiing media hype …
FILIP ZUBCIC: MAN OF SANTA CATERINA – STRONG OVERALL REDSTER PERFORMANCE
Three giant slaloms into the season and we can see a clear trend: victories are an Atomic affair. Following Lucas Braathen’s triumph at the World Cup opener in Sölden, this time it was Filip Zubcic’s turn for the podium in Santa Caterina: he was the winner of the first and third in the second GS (skiing the fastest time in the second run). The other Redster athletes are clearly moving in the right direction, too.
CORONA-SEASON KICK-OFF FOR TEAM NORDIC – FULL FOCUS ON WORLD CHAMPS
After the past season was called short in March amid the corona chaos, the entire Nordic community was basically grounded: material testing, altitude training and all the other common off-season programs were either cancelled or improvised as much as possible. Overall, it was a solid start to the new season for the Atomic Nordic team in Ruka, Finland. Now the athletes know where they stand. And they all seem to agree: The 2020-21 winter is a bit of a lottery in terms of planning due to COVID-19, and all eyes are on the Nordic World Ski Championships 2021 in Oberstdorf.
PURE JOY AFTER 300 DAYS AWAY: THE SKIING SCENE IS CAPTIVATED BY MIKAELA’S COMEBACK IN LEVI
She was missed dearly. Mikaela Shiffrin, the undisputed queen of ski racing, had not been in the start gate for 300 days after her father had died unexpectedly. By the time she was ready to race again in Aare, COVID-19 had taken hold, cancelling the rest of the season. Then a tweaked back wouldn’t let her compete in Sölden five weeks ago. Now, she’s finally back! At her comeback slalom, she was super close to victory and reindeer no. 5 in Levi, Finland, finishing just 0.18 seconds behind. She skied to 5th place in the second slalom.
We are skiers. We are sisters and mothers, nurses and teachers, managers and engineers. We are young and old. We ski big mountains and small ones. We race through slalom gates, we plunge into deep powder, and we break trail on the skin track. We are part of a worldwide community of women who love skiing and are united by the feeling of cold, fresh winter wind on our faces.
All-day comfort, thermal warmth and intuitive performance have always been the hallmark of a proper fitting ski boot. These days most new ski boots provide a great fit right out of the box but given that there are billions of different foot sizes and shapes in the world, the perfect fit is not always automatic. This is where custom boot fitting can make all the difference. By utilizing state-of-the-art shapable plastics, heat moldable liners and revolutionary foam injection technologies, the ultimate in custom fit, comfort and performance can be achieved - regardless of foot size or shape
When you buy ski boots, you lay the foundation of a great skiing experience. The right ski
boot should fit comfortably, providing a firm hold to the foot while reliably transmitting
power and steering impulses from the skier to the ski. The wrong boot can spoil the fun of
skiing. It gives the ski a „life of its own“ and causes pressure points and often enough results
in cold feet. This is as important for beginners as it is for advanced skiers and experts. Quite
frankly, putting some extra thought in choosing the right ski boot is worth the effort!
LUCAS BRAATHEN TAKES HOME FIRST WORLD CUP WIN WITH BUDDY KILDE’S HELP
New season, new shooting star. While the boisterous crowd was absent from this year’s World Cup opener in Sölden, one guy had every reason to scream for joy: Redster millennial Lucas Braathen impressively took home his first World Cup win on the bumpy course on Rettenbachferner glacier. His victory was a prime example of team building in a sport that is mostly known for lone fighters. Even though Overall Word Cup winner and Atomic buddy Aleksander Aamodt Kilde DNF the first run (after best split time), he decided to stay and support his roommate Lucas, giving him the all-important insider tip on which ski to take in run two …
A friend, brother or business partner, when you know someone for twenty years, they change a lot. They bloom, break, rebuild and switch up their style a thousand times. Especially if they’re the fashionista of the skiing world. As their trusty sidekick, your job is to empower, enable, laugh at their tiger print shirt and go along for the ride. And what an epic ride it has been.
REDSTER WORLD CUP WINNER KILDE: “I ACHIEVED A CHILDHOOD DREAM!“
What a season, what a thrilling battle for the big crystal bowl! Following the World Cup season’s abrupt end we have a worthy overall winner: Aleksander Aamodt Kilde is the world’s best ski racer. Sure, there’s more important things going on in the world right now, as he stated in his post right after the season had officially wrapped: to do whatever we can to overcome the coronavirus crisis and keep people safe and healthy. Still, this title is a childhood dream come true for Aleks. He is now one of the ten big names in ski racing who have won the men’s big crystal bowl 22 times in the last 24 years – all on Atomic!
The season has been going on for a long time, its end is unpredictable in light of the coronavirus, yet the Atomic athletes are unimpressed and in top form. Atomic superstar Simen Hegstad Krueger showed a season-best performance in the 50 km Classic mass start race at Holmenkollen near Oslo, finishing 2nd and missing the victory by a mere 0.9 seconds. And next gen Redster racer Hugo Lapalus, who had consistently been strong in the World Cup, crowned his successful season with the bronze medal in the 15 km Classic event at the U23 World Championships. Redster Nordic Combined athlete Fabian Rießle secured place 2 in the season’s last race, landing in 5th position in the overall World Cup.
“MR. SUPER-G” MAURO, ALEKS READY FOR FINAL SHOWDOWN
The final stages of the 2019-20 World Cup season are in full swing and they are not for the faint-hearted. One guy definitely had nerves of steel all winter long: Mauro Caviezel. With top 5 results in all Super-G races this winter, he had the consistency it takes to bring home his first crystal globe. While Mauro benefitted from the cancellation of the season’s last Super-G in Kvitfjell, World Cup leader Aleksander Aamodt Kilde surely would have preferred to race on Sunday in front of his home crowd. Thanks to his strong 2nd place in Saturday’s downhill he regained the lead in the overall by 54 points over Alexis Pinturault. In the last two races in Kranjska Gora, however, he will realistically only be able to score in the GS. So things are very tense up until the last race. The standings in the overall as well as the Slalom World Cup are secondary for Mikaela Shiffrin, who wants to step into the start gate again in Åre after her dad had passed away unexpectedly: “I just hope to make a few good turns. I think that would make my dad happy.”
ALEKSANDER KILDE: “SHIT HAPPENS” – NOW IT’S TIME TO SPEED UP
The World Cup’s final stages are an action drama. In the Super-G of Hinterstoder Aleksander Aamodt Kilde, who came into the race as World Cup leader, had a big lead on the top, and it looked like he would increase his points double or even triple-digit – until he got jammed up and DNF. What a bummer! Zero points in his favorite discipline, in this critical phase of the season. “Shit happens,” he said in his post after the race, and the Redster star immediately got back on track with places 3 and 6 in the Super Combined and the GS. Whatever races will still take place in light of the continued spread of the coronavirus – Aleksander will gun it.
SIMEN ON WORLD CUP HOME STRETCH, ANSGAR JUNIOR WORLD CHAMPION
Atomic’s team strategy of just a few but the right athletes for optimum race support is as straight as it is successful – the opening of the Junior and U23 Cross Country World Championships in Oberwiesenthal proved it again: Atomic athlete Johanna Hagström took silver in the U23 Sprint event, and Norway’s Redster millennial Ansgar Evensen is Junior Sprint world champion 2020. “We’ve supported him since he was a little kid,“ says Nordic Team Manager Peter Landl. Ansgar’s goal? To be part of team Norway at next year’s Nordic World Championships in Oberstdorf – alongside Redster superstar Simen Hegstad Krueger, who achieved his career-best 15 km interval start Classic result in Lahti this past weekend. He’s still in the race for 3rd position in the overall World Cup, and in the Long Distance ranking he fights for 2nd place. Tiril Udnes Weng demonstrated her good form in Lahti too: Relay triumph with team Norway and place 12 in the 10 km race.
ALEKSANDER STILL “MAN IN RED“, ATOMIC HAS A NEW CHAMPION: FILIP
Redster star Aleksander Aamodt Kilde returns from Japan as the old and new “Man in Red” in the World Cup: bravely standing up against his two main contenders in the overall title chase, he raced to 6th place in the GS. While Henrik Kristofferson could close the gap by no more than 5 points (currently 74 points behind), Aleksander was able to extend his lead over Alexis Pinturault to a total of 124 points. It’s a great position ahead of the races in Hinterstoder, where Kilde celebrated his first Super-G victory in 2016. Talking about victories … Atomic is proud to have a new winner in their ranks: Filip Zubcic. And even though the female top athletes Mikaela Shiffrin and Sofia Goggia were missing in Crans Montana, the Redster ladies showed a strong team performance, adding two 3rd places to the weekend’s excellent track record.
The Cross Country World Cup season has been going on for a while, and the Atomic athletes are still on the right track with their Redster setup. Simen Hegstad Krueger demonstrated his world-class during the FIS Ski Tour 2020: following two top results in the sprint events and an outstanding performance in the 30 km pursuit the double Olympic champion finished the grueling series as 2nd. Evgenij Belov came in 12th. On the women’s side Atomic athletes Tiril Udnes Weng and her sister Lotta earned 8th and 14th place.
BAM! GAME CHANGER ALEKSANDER TAKES POLE POSITION IN THE WORLD CUP
“What a feeling!! First win this season“ said Aleksander Aamodt Kilde’s happy post following the Redster double Super-G triumph in Saalbach (with Atomic buddy Mauro Caviezel in 2nd). He had to wait until mid-February for his first victory of the season, yet Aleksander is the one dictating the pace in the World Cup’s final stages: ahead of the technical races in Japan, he’s leading the overall title chase by 79 points over Henrik Kristoffersen and 100 points over Alexis Pinturault. It’s a promising pole position: his contenders can only score unhindered in the three remaining Slaloms, while in all other races (five speed events, four Giant Slaloms, one Combination) Redster ace Kilde will be able to continue what he’s been doing all season long: collect points in a tactically clever way …
In the 15 km freestyle competition in Falun everything went according to plan for Simen Hegstad Krueger – up until the last downhill section. Racing towards his 11th career podium the Atomic superstar fell victim to the deep, dull man-made snow and crashed shortly before the finish line, ending up in 6th position. In her comeback race Redster team mate Johanna Hagström sprinted to a sensational 9th place, skiing the fastest time in the qualifiers, after having recovered from a prolonged illness.
BLACK WEEKEND FOR SOFIA, MARC AND SIMON: SEASON’S OVER!
The Atomic Race family is going through tough times: ahead of the races in Garmisch and Chamonix the sad news of Mikaela Shiffrin’s father Jeff’s passing put the Redster team’s daily business into perspective. Then the World Cup weekend also brought bad news: Sofia Goggia crashed again, breaking her forearm; Marc Digruber and Redster shooting star Simon Maurberger both tore their ACL in Chamonix – the season’s over for all three of them! Cold comfort: Ester Ledecka secured a podium in Garmisch and in the Parallel GS Aleksander Aamodt Kilde made up points in the overall World Cup.
BACKLAND STORMS TO PODIUM AT SUPER-WORLD CUP BERCHTESGADEN
At Berchtesgaden, the third stop of this season’s World Cup, the Atomic Backland Athletes scored on all the three race days. Davide Magnini (ITA) takes home a 3rd place in the vertical and a victory in the individual race, Iwan Arnold (SUI) wins the sprint race, and the brand-new team member Rémi Bonnet (SUI) scored second in the vertical. The junior athlete Paul Verbnjak (AUT) even stands on the podium in all three competitions.
STANDING OVATIONS FOR PETER FILL AND A SUPER STRONG TEAM EFFORT
Despite the cancellation of the Sochi Downhill, the trip to Russia paid off for the Atomic team. In the Super-G three Redster ladies made it into the top 5: Sofia Goggia in 2nd place, Joana Hählen in 3rd and Stephanie Venier in 5th position! Aleksander Aamodt Kilde is still in the race for the overall World Cup with places 2 and 6 in the Downhill and the GS of Garmisch. The weekend’s sentimental hero, though, was Peter Fill: the Atomic star and one of ski racing’s big names ended his career after 355 World Cup starts, receiving standing ovations.
SKIATHLON: SIMEN & FRIENDS WITH BEST TEAM RESULT IN A WHILE
There’s no better way to confirm a team strategy than through race results: in the 30 km skiathlon in Oberstdorf all but one Redster athletes made it into the top 30 – on a very selective course and in a race that’s considered a world championship rehearsal. Simen Hegstad Krueger grabbed his next World Cup podium with a 2nd place, inspiring his teammates to show strong performances too. In Oberstdorf Atomic combined athlete Franz-Josef Rehrl reached the podium for the first time in this so-so winter. Redster biathlete Simon Eder continued his upward trend, finishing 8th in the mass start (his season’s best) and landing in 3rd with Lisa Hauser in the single-mixed relay race. It’s looking very promising for the biathlon team less than three weeks ahead of the world championships in Antholz.
VICTORIES, PODIUMS, AND SENSATIONS – THE REDSTER STARS ARE ON FIRE
It’s a winter without major events, but definitely not a season short of highlights. Just in time for the perceived season’s climax the Redster stars step up their game. In the speed triple of Bansko Mikaela Shiffrin, who had not yet won a race in 2020, is back on top. Winning both the first downhill and the super-G, and coming in 4th in the second downhill, she extended her overall lead to an impressive 370 points. Aleksander Aamodt Kilde is also still in the race for the big title with places 2 and 9 in the Kitzbühel super-G and downhill. And in slalom things are going better than ever: with his 2nd place Marco Schwarz missed his first post-comeback victory by only 0.12 seconds, while Lucas Braathen’s first-run lead and 4th-place finish were nothing but sensational. Although the young Norwegian wasn’t even meant to ski in the slalom World Cup this winter...
SUCCESSFUL ANDORRA WORLD CUP WITH THE NEW BACKLAND SKI
Already in the past years, the microstate Andorra in the Pyrenees has been a good location for the Atomic Backland athletes. Last weekend, the ISMF Skimountaineering season found its continuation there. The Italian athlete Davide Magnini finished 4th in the individual race and 5th in the vertical race. With these results he dominated the Espoir category.
SIMEN’S FIRST CLASSIC PODIUM, SIMON THIRD IN THE RELAY
The good news from Atomic’s Redster Nordic Unit continues: on his Redster S9 Carbon with a transparent base Simen Hegstad Krueger captured the podium for the first time in a classic World Cup race. Finishing 3rd in the 15 km pursuit race of Nove Mesto (CZE), he achieved his career-best classic result. And Simon Eder was happy about his 3rd place in the Biathlon World Cup relay race with team Austria in Ruhpolding.
MIKAELA SHIFFRIN’S GOT CLASS EVEN IN CHALLENGING TIMES
Mikaela Shiffrin is an exceptional athlete in every aspect. Now that things aren’t running so smoothly it shows more than ever. She hasn’t been able to celebrate one of her “easy-peasy“ victories so far this year, even though she was really close to winning in Sestriere: in an ultra tight GS just one-hundredth of a second separated Mikaela’s 3rd place from the top of the podium; in the parallel giant slalom qualifier she skied the fastest time. It’s tighter than usual between the world’s best female technical ski racers – MIkaela might change that any time again, though.
REDSTER COMBINED TEAM IN SHAPE, LINN SPEEDY IN THE SPRINT
Serial world champion on roller skis, Redster-Swede Linn Soemskar demonstrates her power on snow: in the cross-country World Cup in Dresden she finished 5th in the individual and 3rd in the team sprint. The weekend also saw strong World Cup performances of the Atomic Nordic Combined athletes in Val di Fiemme and of biathlete Simon Eder in Oberhof.
MARCO BACK ON THE PODIUM, THE NEXT GENERATION TAKES OFF
The World Cup community is celebrating with Marco Schwarz: it took him only eight races to climb the podium again after coming back from his ACL tear. His 3rd place in Adelboden was an emotional highlight for the Atomic crew this past weekend. Race Manager Christian Höflehner is also pleased with the Redster ladies’ performance in the downhill of Altenmarkt-Zauchensee and with Atomic’s next generation racers getting ever closer to the world’s best.
SIMEN HEGSTAD KRUEGER WINS LAST STAGE OF TOUR DE SKI
Simen Hegstad Krueger’s latest Tour de Ski was anything but “easy-peasy”. Despite his recent 15k victory in Davos, things did not go according to plan in his favorite discipline, the 15k – neither in Toblach nor in Val di Fiemme. But a true champ never gives up: Krueger triumphed in the last race of the Tour with an impressive finish on the legendary final climb towards Alpe Cermis, earning him a 5th place in the overall Tour de Ski ranking.
BACKLAND ON TOP ALREADY AT FIRST WORLD CUP OF THE SEASON
The kickoff to this season’s Skimountaineering World Cup took place in Aussois in the French national park Vanoise. The Backland athletes were able to deliver outstanding performances, above all Iwan Arnold, who celebrated a victory in the Sprint competition and Junior Paul Verbnjak, who left the event with two second places.
SIMEN HEGSTAD KRUEGER WINS DAVOS, ERMIL VOKUEV LA VENOSTA
What a weekend for Atomic’s Redster Cross-Country team! Simen Hegstad Krueger won the 15k race in Davos, the Cross-Country World Cup’s third stop. While in South Tirol’s Vinschgau valley Russian Ermil Vokuev grabbed the Venosta victory on his Redster C9 – right in his first race of the Ski Classics Pro Tour.
1 + 3 = REDSTER! PODIUM DOUBLE IN ST. MORITZ WITH THE TOP STARS
It was razor-thin, mega strong and extremely cool: Sofia Goggia’s triumph in the Super-G of St. Moritz was not only super tight – with a lead of only one hundredth of a second – it was also soothing. With the Redster double podium, thanks to Mikaela Shiffrin’s 3rd place, everyone in the Atomic team now looks forward to more speed thrillers this season. The female Super-G’s hero, however, was a man.
THE REDSTER STARS’ SPEED POWERPLAY – 17 TOP 10 RESULTS FOR ATOMIC!
The speed weekend impressively demonstrated the Atomic team’s strength. The Redster racers return from North America to Europe with 17 top ten results in five speed events. Particularly on the women’s side the speed opening proved to be a Redster powerplay: first World Cup victory for carving phenomenon Ester Ledecka (Olympic champion in Super-G and Snowboard), podiums for Mikaela Shiffrin, Stephanie Venier, Nicol Delago. Plus strong performances by Aleksander Aamodt Kilde and Adrian Smiseth Sejersted – the next Norge super heroes?
EVGENIJ BELOV’S SEASON STARTS WITH A RELAY VICTORY
Second World Cup stop for the Atomic Nordic Team: Evgenij Below just started into the season in Lillehammer, underperforming in the Skiathlon and winning the Relay race with team RUSSIA II the following day – with a strong individual performance. Simen Hegstad Krueger, having recovered from an infection the previous week, returned with a strong skiing performance and an 11th place in the Skiathlon. In the Nordic Combined competition Fabian Rießle once again proved to be the best Redster athlete, with a 3rd and a 4th place. The Atomic Biathlon athletes also delivered in Oestersund: Benjamin Weger reached a top result coming in 5th in the individual 20k race, while Simon Eder was more than happy about his 12th place, having had a difficult time this past fall.
THE SHIFFRIN SHOW GOES ON – AND THE SPEED ACES ACCELERATE
The question who would succeed Marcel Hirscher in dominating the World Cup seems to be answered after only four races into the new season: Mikaela Shiffrin! At her home Slalom in Killington she was the fastest to cross the finish line – for the 42nd time in her career – taking the win by 2.29 seconds! The day before she had podiumed, too – as in all races this season – finishing 3rd in the GS. And in Lake Louise the men’s speed team also kicked the season off well.
REDSTER NORDIC: TIRIL STRONG, ATOMIC COMBINED ATHLETES ALL FIT
In terms of benchmarking, this winter’s first race weekend turned out very satisfactory for the Atomic Nordic team. Particularly noteworthy: at the World Cup opening in Ruka (FIN) Tiril Udnes Weng demonstrated not only her well-known sprint strength (6th place) but also showed a strong upward trend in distance racing. Tiril finished 7th in the 10k pursuit race, while the Atomic ladies Anne Kjersti Kalvaa and Victoria Carl also made a good first impression early in the season with strong times in the pursuit. Additionally, the Redster Nordic Combined power team delivered eight top ten results in three competitions.
APPROACHABLE LIKE NO OTHER STAR – #41: MIKAELA’S NEW WORLD RECORD
1.78 seconds ahead! Mikaela Shiffrin says all chattily: „First run I felt solid, second run I felt
solid, but I was pushing harder… and I had a little bit of luck.” Modest and approachable – that’s
how Mikaela chats about her win in Levi, a victory for the history books – her 41st. No man, no
woman has ever won that many World Cup slaloms before. Her performance on the race course
is one thing, her personality another – Redster superstar Mikaela is a shining light here and
there.
You don’t have time to wax. You don’t want to spend money on wax. You don’t want to learn about waxing. You're not alone. We met some likeminded Nordic skiers in Scandinavia, the land of cross-country and they told us how they handled the "waxing issue".
REDSTER TEAM ON THE RED CARPET. MARCEL SAYS THANKS, ATOMIC!
“It feels like winter starts right now.“ There is no better way to describe the special atmosphere at the Atomic Media Day than this statement by skiing superstar Mikaela Shiffrin. Once again, the media event at the new Atomic Experience Center proved to be the ski scene’s euphoriant gathering.
GOODBYE MARCEL, AND FAREWELL! YOUR ATOMIC TEAM SAYS THANK YOU!
It was more than a ski racing career, more than a successful collaboration over a long period of time, more than just another chapter in history – the past ten years marked a new era in alpine ski racing. A glorious era that will forever bear his name: the era of Marcel Hirscher. In the 4,554 days of congenial partnership in the World Cup, Marcel, his father Ferdinand, and Atomic have set new standards in terms of professionalism, performance, and Redster race intelligence, profoundly changing the world of ski racing. Looking back, inside, and ahead we say, “Goodbye, Marcel, and see you soon!” Your Atomic team says thank you for the awesome time...
The Skimountaineering World Cup finals took place last weekend in Madonna di Campiglio, Italy. The Backland athletes proofed their great class also in these last ISMF races of the season. Under bad weather and snow conditions they achieved six places on the podium in the daily classifications of all categories, and not at least because of those the Backland team can draw a strong season balance.
GREAT JOB GREAT SEASON NORDIC TEAM: NOW TESTING AND CASTING
The last racing weekend this World Championship winter has come to an end. And it’s the starting gun for the new season. For the most successful Atomic Nordic Team for years, the time has come to start testing and casting. Redster scouts and equipment specialists are already on their way to Norway and Russia. Their mission: top secret tests of the new model series with a new name. Scouting and recruiting are great qualities in the Atomic Nordic Unit. This was proved by the strong performance this season 2018 / 2019, especially by the newcomers. Do you need proof?
THE BACKLAND ATHLETES AT THE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS ON THE SUMMIT
The 10th ISMF World Championships in Villars-sur-Ollon/Switzerland were the highlight of this season’s skimountaineering race calendar. The Atomic Backland athletes were able to shine bright, receiving six medals in total. Noteworthy is the performance of the young Espoirs athletes, strongly pressing after the Seniors and thereby promising a successful near future.
7 OUT OF 11! THANKS TEAM ATOMIC FOR THIS ABSOLUTELY AMAZING SEASON
They have written the most beautiful chapters in skiing history again, this World Championship winter. They have celebrated so many wins in a row, set up world records and rocked the ski circus 18 / 19 right up to the last minute. The Atomic stars, were, are and remain a benchmark in ski racing and one fact explains everything: both the new and ‘old’ Overall World Cup winners Mikaela Shiffrin and Marcel Hirscher together have picked up 7 out of 11 possible Crystal Globes. Wow! Together with the rest of the cool Redster gang they’ve won 30 out of 73 World Cup races and have skied onto the podium 53 times.
THE GREAT SKIING EMPEROR: MARCEL BEST OF THE BEST FOR THE EIGHTH TIME IN A ROW
Eight years ago nobody, not even Marcel himself, thought this would be possible. Marcel Hirscher has just won his 8th Overall World Cup in a row in the penultimate weekend of racing this World Championship winter! Including his small Crystal Globes in the Slalom and Giant Slalom he is now the Global Emperor in skiing history: on top of the eight Overall Wins he also has another dozen small Crystal Globes to add. He’s won everything, achieved everything. And here’s Marcel Hirscher’s exciting answer to the question about his future.
ATOMIC ALL-ROUNDER MIKAELA: OVERALL WORLD CUP WIN #3 IN A ROW
OOPS! SHE DID IT AGAIN. Atomic superstar Mikaela Shiffrin has become the best ski racer in the world again for the third time in a row and is now Overall World Cup winner again this season. The decisive moment came in Sochi this weekend where the races were cancelled due to heavy snow. Her third large Crystal Globe is the logical result after her truly amazing winter.
REHRL, RIESSLE, REDSTER RACERS – GOLD, BRONZE IN THE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP TEAM SPRINT
Two Redster athletes are celebrating again at the Nordic Ski World Championships in Seefeld. Two from the
strong combined skiers unit: with the Redster Carbon S9 Fabian Rießle raced competently over the finishing line
to the World Championship title for Germany; Franz-Josef Rehrl won his second Bronze medal after another
excellent cross-country performance.
MARCEL SECURES GS CRYSTAL GLOBE AND SOFIA’S WITH US UNTIL OLYMPIC GAMES 2022
Race intelligence is about making the right decisions at the right moment, even if they are risky ones. Marcel Hirscher’s start in the Combined in Bansko was a risky decision (see Marco Schwarz, who suffered a serious knee injury after a questionable jump near the finish). But they were the right decisions and important: second place in the Combined, second place in the GS, Marcel has secured the small Crystal Globe in the GS early (for the sixth time in his career) and keeps the upper hand in the Overall World Cup a solid 490 points in the lead. Even more great news for the Atomic team with a double win in the Ladies Downhill in Crans Montana! Sofia Goggia won her first race since her comeback, ahead of Redster colleague Joana Haehlen. And because everything is so easy and going successfully for Sofia, the speed queen has signed up until after the Olympic Games in 2022. And it’s all been finalized already!
FRANZ-JOSEF: THE SUPER JUMP TO BRONZE IN CROSS-COUNTRY
“If Franz-Josef can call up his talent in ski jumping that he’s capable of, then...” Up until now the Atomic combined skier Franz-Josef Rehrl was nearly rated exclusively by his ski jumping performance. Ironically, with his first appearance at the home World Championships in Seefeld the Redster athlete couldn’t call up what he’s capable of in ski jumping. And then in the 10 kilometer cross-country race the super jumper delivered a great performance to jump from 4th place into Bronze position. His support team had prepared the “Redster carbon secret weapons” for wet snow…
MIKAELA, MARCEL: THE FIRST SMALL GLOBES ARE IN THE BAG!
The Redster stars Mikaela Shiffrin, Marcel Hirscher and Marco Schwarz had hardly put away the eight medals they won together at the World Championships when they were back in the limelight at the city event in Stockholm. Last weekend the reigning Slalom World Champions ensured early on in the parallel event in the Swedish capital that the Slalom World Cup and the first small globes are in the bag. With 3rd place, Marco Schwarz also confirmed that parallel events are his thing, just like everything where fast turns count.
3X GOLD, 3X SILVER, 3X BRONZE: REDSTER STARS ROCKED THE ALPINE SKI WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS
The Redster stars came from a stunning World Cup to Åre as medal contenders, withstood the public’s expectations, and rocked the 45th FIS Skiing World Championships! With three Gold, three Silver, and three Bronze medals: the racing team from the most successful skiing brand in the world with its superstars and silent heroes in the background once again proved that it’s the benchmark in race intelligence, performance and commitment. And let’s hear it again for Mikaela Shiffrin, Sofia Goggia, Marcel Hirscher and Marco Schwarz!
JOHANNA: PODIUM IN HER 2ND RACE! NORDIC STARS PREPARING THE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS
The World Cup tour stopped in Cogne, Italy: the last test before the Nordic Ski World Championships in Seefeld. And it looks promising from the Atomic Nordic Unit point of view. Since the Swede Johann Hagström fell on the way to Gold and became the tragic hero at the U23 World Championships in Lahti, the young athlete in the World Cup has had a rocket start to the World Cup. A week ago a well-deserved 9th place, this time in her second World Cup race ever, she came third! Only a selected few manage to get on the podium so quickly, and on top of that, just before the World Championships. And talking about that: this is the last update from the Redster stars before they start soon in Seefeld.
BRONZE FOR MARCO: MENTAL METAL FOR TECHNICAL RACES.
His win in the only Combined on the Lauberhorn this winter made the Redster star Marco Schwarz the top favorite for the World Championship Combined in Åre. After the Downhill all the signs were still looking like he would fulfill his role. At the end of the first World Championship race Blacky was pleased he had won the Bronze medal. Mental Metal for the Atomic youngster even before the technical races: “It’s good to know that I’ve got a medal. And now I’m looking forward to the next races.”
It’s
SUPER SIMON EVEN AT –23°C SPRINT LADIES SMILING IN LAHTI
His performance is as reliable as his sniper rifle! Simon Eder, the charismatic biathlete star in the Redster Nordic Unit once again proved that he can be relied on even in arctic temperatures in Canmore (Canada). He came sixth in the Individuals, which was shortened from 20 to 15 kilometers because of the extreme cold, and fifth with the Austrian relay team. And it was too cold for a big grin with temperatures well under minus 20 degrees in Canmore. But the Atomic Sprint Ladies Tiril Udnes Weng (6th) und Hanna Falk (7th) were smiling after their World Cup in Lahti. Whilst the Nordic Redster Combined with Franz-Josef Rehrl, Manuel Faisst, Fabian Riessle didn’t start in Lahti in preparation for the Nordic Ski World Championships in Seefeld.
Understatement is not Sofia Goggia’s style. In fact, the 26-year-old from Bergamo, Italy likes to double up on her victories. Which is why, when she took home her first downhill world cup win at Jeongseon in 2017, she followed it up with a Super-G win the very next day. And she didn’t just win Olympic gold in 2018, she also beat out Lindsey Vonn for the world cup title. “You always have to raise the bar a little bit”, she says with a twinkle in her eye.
FRANZ-JOSEF, MANUEL, FABIAN – THE NORDIC REDSTERS COMBINED
It doesn’t matter which course or what conditions, wherever the World Cup stops, there’s always a constant factor in the Nordic Combined and that’s the strong performance of Redster combined with Franz-Josef Rehrl, Manuel Faisst and Fabian Riessle. The cool Atomic trio started with chances of a medal in Klingenthal (GER) and just like the rest of this winter season, they were in strong shape: Fabian sixth and third, Franz-Josef fifth and sixth, Manual ninth and seventh. And yes, one of the secrets behind their constant performance is a special form of trust.
The ski resort Super Devoluy in the south east of France was the location of this season’s third Skimountaineering-World Cup. Astonishing performances were delivered by the Atomic Backland athletes. Iwan Arnold won the Sprint race, Davide Magnini celebrated a victory in the Espoir category of the Individual race.
Today’s skiing superstars Mikaela Shiffrin and Marcel Hirscher have been with us under contract for years. Both are leading the Overall World Cup classifications sovereignly and both are travelling as the benchmark in skiing to the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships in Åre. However, they are not the only medal candidates; in the current World Championship season Redster athletes have won 26 out of 53 races in the World Cup. The rest of the skiing world, i.e. all other skiing brands together have won 28. These numbers just go to prove Atomic’s dominance, as the world market leader, in ski racing.
ROCK´N´REDSTER! 1.21 SECOND LEAD AT THE MARCEL SHOW IN SCHLADMING
“Just wait until everything goes according to plan again!” It’s rare for Marcel to make a threat, but just before Schladming that’s exactly what he did. The classic Slalom races in Wengen and Kitzbühel, where he had to work unusually hard to earn his third and second place aroused the ski maniac in Marcel again. In his last training run before the night race, on his home snow in Annaberg, the hero of all-time skiing changed his setup by a few millimeters. A change so minor that no normal skier would notice this difference. Marcel said, “For me it makes a world of difference”.
REDSTER PRECISION TEAM: TOP ATHLETES IN GOOD SHAPE
The last stops before the countdown to the World Championships for the Atomic Nordic Team bring the next top performances from the top athletes. After 3rd place in the Tour de Ski Atomic superstar Simen Hegstad Krueger came in 2nd place in the World Cup in Ulricehamm, over the 15 kilometer freestyle, beaten by only 1.1 seconds. In the relay race the Norwegian came 3rd, whilst Redster colleague Evgeniy Belov won with his Russia II team. It was also a successful weekend for Atomic biathlete Simon Eder at the World Cup in Antholz: 5th in the Sprint, 8th in the pursuit, 10th in the mass start, where his Redster team colleague Benjamin Weger came in 6th. For the Atomic combined skier Franz-Josef Rehrl (strong performances with 8th and 4th place in Trondheim), his performance before the home World Championships in Seefeld is showing the right direction, his team colleague Manuel Faisst came in 7th and 13th. The future stars in the Atomic team demonstrated at the Nordic Junior World Championships in Lahti that you should remember their names.
SIMPLY BEAUTIFUL! STEPHANIE’S 1ST WIN AND SOFIA’S DREAM COMEBACK
Great sporting events in Garmisch! Despite “hot competition” from the racing in Kitzbühel, this weekend it was the Atomic speed ladies who delivered the magic and emotional moments. 42 years after the Atomic skier of the century, Annemarie Moser-Pröll won the Downhill here, Stephanie Venier, the Redster race lady, broke the spell on the Austrians here in Garmisch and won again. With her very first win in the World Cup after a mega season. And just before the World Championships it was great to see Sofia Goggia back at the start after a complicated broken ankle. She came, took a look and came second twice - what a dream comeback! The wacky insider story behind it: whilst Sofia Goggia was out of action due to injury, an Atomic specialist team was busy putting her Redster speed skis into action, as if she had been racing herself. And the crazy thing: her equipment was at the races in North America without her …
The
NEXT STOP OF WORLD CUP IN ANDORRA, AGAIN TOP-RESULTS
In Andorra in midst the Pyrenees, the Backland athletes had a successful continuation in the ISMF Skimountaineering-season. Davide Magnini finished 4th in the individual race, which equals the victory in the Espoir category. Armin Höfl took rank 4 in the vertical race and was invited to the price giving ceremony for the first time in his career.
It’s not the largest athlete team in the World Cup, but the Redster Unit is the most successful by far. Thanks to two absolute shining stars of the century. And to a star line up, which isn’t complete due to injury, but still proves weekend after weekend how much potential there is in this Atomic team. So would all the Redster heroes from the races on the Lauberhorn and in Cortina d’Ampezzo please come onto the winning podium for a group photo! Standing ovations for: Mikaela Shiffrin, Marco Schwarz, Marcel Hirscher, Stephanie Venier and for Manuel Feller plus the athletes of the future.
FIRST RACE BRINGS FIRST WORLD CUP PODIUM OF THE SEASON
Last weekend, the ISMF Skimountaineering World Cup started in Bischofshofen, Austria. Already in the first competition of the season, the sprint race, Atomic athlete Iwan Arnold was able to finish on the second place. Further top-rankings and outstanding performances completed a successful weekend.
THE REDSTER-HIGHLIGHTS: FRANZ-JOSEF KING OF CHAUX-NEUVE
The Nordic Combined Triple in Chaux-Neuve (FRA), Biathlon World Cup in Ruhpolding (Germany), cross-country World Cup event in Otepää (Estonia): The Atomic Nordic Crew has been hard at work and successful everywhere. Redster highlight N° 1: Combined skier Franz-Josef Rehrl captured the audience’s hearts with his first two World Cup wins of his career in Chaux-Neuve and came in 3rd place in the final classification after his Atomic buddy Fabian Rießle. Atomic biathlete Simon Eder came home with 8th place in the Sprint and 9th place in the mass start in Ruhpolding. Redster classic star Evgeniy Belov is fit again after having the flu in the Tour de Ski and came in 6th place in the 15km Classic in Otepää. Do you know Ansgar Evensen - not yet? Well, he’s the future star at Atomic and recent Silver medal winner from the Nordic Junior World Championships.
The biggest and one of the most prestigious Austrian race events in skimountaineering, the Mountain Attack on the slopes of the ski resort Saalbach-Hinterglemm, brought two second and one ninth rank for the Atomic Backland Athletes.
ATOMIC NORDIC: BREAK AFTER THE TOUR WITH IMPORTANT SUCCESS STORIES
The week after the Tour de Ski is traditionally a short break for the athletes to have a breather, especially for the cross-country team in the Atomic Nordic Unit. The majority were able to have a break, as the City Grand Prix in Dresden will only be fought for by the pure sprint specialists. Simen Hegstad Krueger, Third in the Tour, carried on his momentum from his top performance, and is looking forward to new tasks. Atomic star Evgeniy Belov has got his energy back again, after having the flu which threw him out of the Tour early. Whilst the Redster cross-country athletes are having a break, the biathletes and Nordic combined skiers brought in some success stories.
Every weekend the World Championship season is increasing speed and dynamics. The classic races are the backdrop to fight for World Championship places, and also for the constant, regular showdowns of the best Slalom and Giant Slalom skiers in the world. The man who needs to be beaten has been the same for years: Marcel Hirscher. Are the competitors getting closer to beating him!? No! But it seems to be the case. Marcel Hirscher himself, is skiing his first runs, as if he could have done with another espresso, and is giving ski racing a fine storyboard in January. Until he gets together with his team of chief strategists in the break, and then changes the complete setup every time and shows, with his decision, who is the greatest skier ever. Marcel is making a hero’s journey out of his wins. In Adelboden he won his 66th and 67th World Cup races.
SUPER SIMEN TOOK HIS PLACE ON THE PODIUM ON THE LAST CLIMB!
Simen Hegstad Krueger isn’t only a talented cross-country skier, he’s also got a lot of talent for
drama at big events in cross-country sport. At the Olympics in Pyeongchang the Redster Star
had the highly-emotional trilogy – fall in the hectic start – broken pole – win in the skiathlon
helped him to become famous worldwide. Now with a grueling performance on the very last
climb to Alpe Cermis in the Tour de Ski the Norwegian secured third place on the podium. A
longed-for success, nearly as important as his three Olympic medals, as Simen is now back for
the future.
REDSTER “ROYAL COUPLE” - ATOMIC RULES THE SLALOM GAME!
A New Year with new opportunities: the well-known Coronation ceremony twice for the “Snow Queen Trophy” in Zagreb: Mikaela Shiffrin was crowned for the fourth time with a huge lead, and Marcel Hirscher for the fifth time with the Glass Crown for the Slalom win. The Redster “Royal Couple” rule once again and Atomic still remains the Slalom power in the World Cup. With the exception of Madonna di Campiglio they have won all the Slalom races this World Championship winter and the superstars are not the only candidates for victory.
HIS FIRST FIRST – A GREAT START: HOW MARCO ROCKED OSLO!
New Year’s Day is a good day for a première win: his first ever career-win on January 1st. Marco “Blacky” Schwarz, winner in Oslo, won’t forget this day in his whole life. The great new star rocked Oslo with his double block technique: trusting his Redster set up completely and now slowly honoring what his team friend Marcel Hirscher has always said about him: “Blacky skis super turns”
2018 WAS A REDSTER-YEAR AND MIKAELA IS NOW THE GREATEST!
The magic mountain on the Semmering is a beautiful place for magical moments in skiing history. Her 51st World Cup win, her 36th in Slalom: with this win she has now made herself the greatest female Slalom skier in history. She’s also the first one to have won 15 World Cup races in a calendar year. 2018 has been a Redster year thanks to the impressive performance by the current skiing superstars Mikaela Shiffrin and Marcel Hirscher, but also thanks to the athletes, who have made their breakthrough to the World’s top athletes in their slipstream. Here’s a recap.
MARCEL’S MAGIC IN ALTA BADIA: RECORD LEAD IN HIS 61ST WIN!
A legendary Giant Slalom course on the World Cup circuit is the “Gran Risa” in Alta Badia, where only the best of the best win. Nobody has ever won as masterfully as Marcel Hirscher: his 2.53 second lead over the rest of the world’s best is now a new record. For the Redster superstar himself it was his 61st World Cup win, further confirmation that everything is under control. A small secret behind Marcel’s magic Giant Slalom performance is codenamed “Bambi”…
REDSTER ATHLETE EVGENIY BELOV CELEBRATES HIS FIRST WIN ON ATOMIC
After difficult phases in his career he has changed a lot, even his material set up. That was the right decision as quality always pays off in the long run: Evgeniy Belov, the new addition to the Atomic Nordic Team from Russia celebrated his first win on Atomic in his second race in the cross-country World Cup 15km freestyle in Davos. As he always believed in himself.
REDSTER BIATHLETE SIMON EDER IN GREAT SHAPE, CROSS-COUNTRY SKIERS TOP
Simon Eder’s return to the Atomic Nordic Unit has started as a success story. In Pokljuka, Slovenia, the Redster biathlete didn’t miss a shot all week, 3rd in the individuals, ninth in the sprint, fourth in the pursuit: a great week in really difficult conditions. Strong performance also by the Atomic cross-country athletes: Evgeniy Belov came in fourth over 30 kilometres freestyle in his first Redster appearance, and second with the Russian relay team at the World Cup in Beitostølen (NOR); Simen Hegstad Krueger came seventh in the 30 km race and third in the relay.
The Atomic stars Mikaela Shiffrin and Marcel Hirscher are definitely still the benchmarks in Alpine racing. Whilst Marcel Hirscher celebrated his 60th World Cup win to-date, in the same place as his debut victory back in 2009, Mikaela Shiffrin demonstrated her class in St. Moritz. Her maximum points with wins in the Super G and parallel slalom, just like Marcel’s jubilee win, prove that the Atomic support in the background is working perfectly. 3 races, 3 wins, the stars are in Redster flow: both of them are leading the Overall World Cup classification. A glance behind the scenes shows what’s making them stronger.
YOUNGSTER BRUGGER TOPS THE REDSTER PODIUM FESTIVAL
What a memorable weekend for the Redster Nordic Unit! With five Top 3 places in three different disciplines the Atomic cracks proved their remarkable early season form at the beginning of the World Championship winter. The man of the day: Janosch Brugger. The 21 year old German was “Winner of the Day” in the classic pursuit in Lillehammer.
REDSTER ROOKIES POWER OFF TO A GOOD START IN THE COMBINED SEASON
The Redster Nordic Unit didn’t have to be asked twice at the World Cup opening in Ruka, Finland. The newly assembled team for the Nordic combined kicked off with an especially impressive start to the season.
THREE PEAT! MIKAELA KEEPS HER VISION IN KILLINGTON
Only four races into the winter season in the Ladies World Cup and the Redster rocket Mikaela Shiffrin is already 114 points ahead of the rest of the world. In the third edition of her home race in Killington (USA) the 23 year old kept a clean slate in the slalom in thick fog and won for the third time in a row in Vermont. In the Men’s speed opening in Lake Louise Mauro Caviezel surprised everyone coming in third place.
Now it’s nearly official for the competitors: you wouldn’t notice that the current Alpine stars have had a break from the racing action. Marcel Hirscher and Mikaela Shiffrin are preparing to dictate the World Championship winter 2018/19 from the top again. In Levi, Finland, the Redster rockets carved their way to their respective 3rd slalom win in a row and 3rd win in the Arctic Circle since 2013 and 2016.
OUTSIDE MAGAZINE GEAR OF THE YEAR AWARD FOR ATOMIC’S NEW GOGGLE
With winter on its way, Atomic is pleased to announce it has received the coveted Gear of the Year Award from OUTSIDE, North America’s preeminent active and adventure lifestyle magazine.
MIKAELA STARTED HER HATTRICK MISSION FOR THE TITLE ON THE PODIUM
The World Championship winter started as the Olympic season ended with a race being cancelled and a Redster athlete up on the podium. Mikaela Shiffrin started her attack on her third big crystal globe by coming in third place at the opening race of the season, the giant slalom in Sölden. The men’s race was cancelled due to heavy snow and wind.
In preparation for the 2018 / 2019 season with the prestigious Nordic World Championships in Seefeld the Russian cross-country skier Evgeniy Belov will also be counting on the race support of the Atomic Redster Nordic Unit, following the world-class biathlete Simon Eder who signed up recently. After the performance test results with the new Redster material convinced him Belov also signed a two-year contract.
As a real „rising star“, the 20 year-old Italian Davide Magnini has been known in skimountaineering over the past years. The winner of the overall World Cup in the Espoir-category in the season 2017/18 has now been adopted by the Atomic-family and can design his personal future with products from Altenmarkt.
THE RETURN: SIMON EDER IS PART OF THE ATOMIC TEAM AGAIN
He is a world-class biathlete, showcase athlete and a guy who enriches the Nordic scene. And now he’s back with the Atomic Redster Nordic Unit again: Austria’s biathlon star, Simon Eder, six times medal winner at big events, is, after 10 years, returning to his “home” team and relying on the know-how from Altenmarkt again. The performance tests convinced him, on Tuesday he signed his two year contract.
BACKLAND HEROES HAVE FINISHED THE ULTIMATE SKI TOUR
Red Bull Der Lange Weg – in English „The Long Way“ – the world’s longest ski tour. It took five athletes 36 days and 23 hours to cross the Alps from Raichenau an der Rax (Austria) to the port city Nice at the French Côte d’Azur.
MARCEL HIRSCHER AND ATOMIC: CONTRACT EXTENDED UNTIL 2020!
After the memorable Olympic winter the run-up for the next World Championship season has already started. Only four days after the World Cup final with seven crystal globes for Atomic the Redster success is unstoppable: before his heli-skiing trip to Canada the most successful ski racer in the world Marcel Hirscher extended his partnership with the most successful ski brand in the world until 2020. Thus both ski superstars, Hirscher as well as his female counterpart Mikaela Shiffrin, have renewed their contract with the world market leader from Altenmarkt.
With two cancellations due to wind, a season which is going to be difficult for the Redster Alpine
Department to beat came to an end: five Olympic Gold medals (out of a possible ten), seven
Crystal Globes (out of twelve), both Overall World Cup wins for the 2nd time in a row. And with
28 individual wins, thanks to three first places at the finals in Are (Sofia Goggia, Mikaela Shiffrin,
Marcel Hirscher) they also managed to jump to 1st place in the classification for the ski brand
with the most wins this winter.
The Pierra Menta race is part of the high-Alpine and prestigious “La Grande Course” skimountaineering cup in the Western Alps. At the four-day classic, the Atomic Backland athletes celebrated remarkable success.
SKI QUEEN MIKAELA MAKES IT A DOUBLE-DOUBLE FOR ATOMIC
Even on the penultimate World Cup weekend this winter most of the globes turned red. With 3rd place in the giant slalom and her win in the slalom the exceptional Redster talent Mikaela Shiffrin supremely clinched the overall and slalom leader board. This means that Atomic has already secured half of all the crystal globes and Sofia Goggia could provide the “absolute majority” in the final in Are.
There’s
2 WINS, 3 GLOBES: MARCEL’S NOW GOT THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN
The World Cup winter season carries on for another two weeks, but Redster hero Marcel Hirscher could already fly away on cloud 9 towards his holiday. A brilliant double win in Kranjska Gora simultaneously his 11th and 12th wins this season decided the fight for the large crystal globe as well as 1st place in giant slalom and slalom. In the ladies events a 6th place for Mikaela Shiffrin in the remaining 6 races would still enable her to successfully defend her title.
HANNA FALK SPRINTED TO THIRD PLACE ON THE PODIUM IN LAHTI
The Redster Nordic unit carried on in their top Olympic form in the World Cup home straight. In the absence of the Olympic champion Simen Hegstad Krueger, Hanna Falk the 28 year old Swede, celebrated her 10th World Cup podium coming in third in the skating sprint in Lahti.
With the closing ceremony on Sunday the glory days for the Redster units in Pyeongchang came to an end. The more than satisfactory overall results: 7x Gold, 2x Silver and 2x Bronze medals. As expected the lion’s share came from the Alpine experts: Marcel Hirscher (Alpine Combined and Giant Slalom), Ester Ledecka (Super G), Mikaela Shiffrin (Giant Slalom) and Sofia Goggia (Downhill) who earned half of all the Alpine Olympic wins for Atomic.
THE REDSTER PARALYMPIC STARS ARE READY FOR PYEONGCHANG
Whilst the successful Alpine and Nordic Olympic heroes from the Atomic team have just returned with lots of precious metals in their luggage, the countdown has started for the stars in the Redster Paralympics team for Pyeongchang from 9th to 18th March. Five atomic athletes are competing in Korea for Gold, Silver and Bronze: Claudia Lösch, Heike Eder, Thomas Grochar, Roman Rabl and Markus Gfatterhofer are ready as the new Atomic training video impressively shows. For the video shoot the Redster Paralympics racers also met their most famous team colleagues, even the new double Olympic winner Marcel Hirscher. He said “My team colleagues are courageous and in best form."
WITH ATOMIC BACKLAND ON THE WORLD’S LONGEST SKITOUR
Red Bull Der Lange Weg – The World’s Longest Ski Tour. History repeats itself. ATOMIC is as event partner and with athletes on board in this adventure.
SCANDINAVIAN FREESKI ICON HENRIK WINDSTEDT JOINS THE ATOMIC TEAM
As an integral part of the freeski scene since its inception, Henrik Windstedt not only helped shape the sport during its infancy, he is one of a handful of freeskiers that successfully transitioned into the big mountain realm to influence the progression of freeriding as well. Henrik’s wealth of experience and influence will be a massive asset to Atomic.
M & M: REDSTER DOUBLE PACK IN THE OLYMPICS TEST RUN
The first double win for Atomic this winter, ironically in the final rehearsal before the Olympics Men’s Alpine races, in the giant slalom in Garmisch, if that’s not a good omen. With Marcel Hirscher’s 120th World Cup podium, Manuel Feller managed his first one in his 78th World Cup race. Mikaela Shiffrin, who now successfully can’t be beaten as the defending World Cup champion, despite her first slalom fallout in 13 months.
REDSTER ACES ARE SAVING THE PODIUM PLACES FOR THE OLYMPICS
In the last World Cup races before the Olympic Games in Pyeongchang the Redster Nordic unit confirmed their high performance from the last few weeks. Especially the Sprint ladies Rolsted Harsem (NOR) and Soemskar (SWE) inspired with their 4th and 5th place performance in Seefeld. The podium places should follow in South Korea in February.
EXTENDED BEFORE THE OLYMPIC GAMES: MIKAELA’S STAYING WITH ATOMIC UNTIL 2020!
Before the start of the Olympic Games in Pyeongchang, Mikaela Shiffrin, the world’s best female skier at the moment has made a clear statement by extending the partnership with Atomic by a further two years until after the 2019/2020 season. With another win this race weekend in Lenzerheide the leading ski superstar can set up another new benchmark in the World Cup! Win n° 42 would mean that before her 23rd birthday she has won more races than the Atomic icon Annemarie Moser-Pröll back in her time.
TRUE WINNER: MARCEL HAS EQUALISED WITH THE REDSTER LEGEND HERMANN MAIER
A home win in front of 50,000 fans, the final rehearsal before the slalom in the Winter Olympics, but above all he has now equalised with Hermann Maier, the Atomic icon, the most successful winner in the overall rankings. Even for Marcel the night race in Schladming was unusually rich in superlatives. But he still showed himself in his usual humble way: “I’m incredibly happy that I could achieve that.”
The Redster Nordic line up for Pyeongchang is getting into even better shape. Particularly impressive is the quality. After Simen Hegstad Krueger (winner in Toblach), Hanna Falk (winner in Dresden), Kathrine Rolsted Harsem is now also under suspicion of being a possible “medal winner” after her 2nd place in the classic sprint in Planica.
MARCEL BROKE THE SOUND BARRIER WITH HIS FEAT OF STRENGTH
Once again the Atomic top performers could be relied on again this weekend. Sofia Goggia delivered an impressive win in downhill N° 1 on her home race course in Cortina and Mikaela Shiffrin completed a Redster dominated podium with her third place. In Kitzbühel Marcel Hirscher delivered the highlight with his 2nd place and broke the 1,000 points barrier in the World Cup.
At the largest Austrian event in skimountaineering, Armin Höfl won the “Tour” distance, followed by another Backland athlete, Daniel Zugg. And though the brand-new BACKLAND 65 UL has undergone its test on fire more than successfully.
A sensational start and a fantastic happy end. This is the brief summary of the Alpine racing weekend from a Redster point of view. Whilst Sofia Goggia left her competitors behind her with a real test of courage in the downhill in Bad Kleinkirchheim, Peter Fill secured his 1st Crystal Globe of the winter in combined second on the Lauberhorn. And Marcel Hirscher is still unbeaten after five weeks after his 1st win in the giant slalom on the Lauberhorn.
RIGHT ON TIME: HANNA FALK IN OLYMPIC FORM IN HER 3RD WIN
Perfect timing! The closer the Olympic cross-country competitions get, the more the Redster Nordic unit is gaining momentum. After Simen Hegstad Krueger’s win in Toblach Hanna Falk is now also showing top form and won the skating sprint in Dresden. With the world-record as it were for the longest patience in World Cup history.
HIGH FIVE! IT’S RAINING RECORDS FOR MIKAELA THE REDSTER ROCKET
Same result different day! Wherever Mikaela Shiffrin was at the starting gate in 2018 the competitors were only fighting for 2nd place. The same thing happened in Flachau, near the Redster hometown: her 5th win in 5 races 2018, slalom win N° 30 (without city events) but this time from a chasing position with the fastest time in the final on a soft and battered course.
Without the figureheads Simen Hegstad Krueger, Sondre Turvoll Fossli und Hanna Falk, who preferred to prepare for the Winter Games in Korea, the Redster Nordic team performed much better than expected in the Tour de Ski. The absolute highlight: three Top 10 places in the Ladies mass start competition over 10 kilometres in Oberstdorf.

REDSTER-KICKSTART: 2018 BEGINS WITH A WINNING STREAK
In the first week of Alpine racing in the New Year, Mikaela Shiffrin and Marcel Hirscher were, more than ever, the measure of all World Cup things to come: eight races, seven wins, leading in seven interim results. From Kranjska Gora and Adelboden even the Atomic figureheads carried away the maximum of 400 points after some memorable wins.
The new Alpine year is only four days old, but the Redster race family already has three wins. A hundred points for Mikaela Shiffrin in Oslo, a further hundred for her and Marcel Hirscher on the Sljeme. There the sixth time overall World Cup winner knew how to enjoy his 4th Zagreb escapade: his 5th win of the season but particularly his 50th World Cup win means he has now caught up with Alberto Tomba in 3rd place on the best overall leader board.
MERRY CHRISTMAS! ATOMIC HEROES: THREE WINS IN THREE RACES
As the World Cup leaders and four times season winners Marcel Hirscher and Mikaela Shiffrin are carving into the Christmas break. The last three races before Christmas were just a unique, continuous Redster party. Despite a great blunder Marcel won the Madonna slalom and Mikaela won the “giant” and parallel slalom in Courchevel.
Mikaela Shiffrin has taken the last blank spot on her winning map. After her convincing slalom win in Lienz the 22 year old can now exhibit first places in all classical World Cup destinations. A pleasant side effect is the Redster figurehead slides into 2018 with 371 points in the lead.
What a weekend! With 3rd place in the parallel giant slalom in Alta Badia ski superstar Marcel Hirscher kept the golden Redster ratio: one Atomic athlete on the podium after every race. His victory on the Gran Risa above all showed one thing: his compulsory break has made him even stronger.
An early Christmas present for the Redster Nordic Department! Simen Hegstad Krüger, who has been in excellent form since the beginning of the season, celebrated his first World Cup win in Toblach (South Tyrol) on Saturday in the 15 kilometre freestyle. Exactly two months before the Olympic Games competition for the same distance!
Less than two months to go to the winter Olympic Games in Korea and Simen Hegstad Krueger, the best Redster figurehead for cross-country is getting warmed up. In the 15 km skating in Davos he was only 6.7 seconds off the second World Cup podium in his career.
ATOMIC VIKINGS WIN TWO TOP 6 PLACES AT THEIR HOME WORLD CUP
Lots of top places this weekend for the Atomic Nordic department at three different venues. In the Redster comparison the Viking cross-country specialists Simen Hegstad Krueger (4th in skiathlon) and Sondre Turvoll Fossli (6th in the classic sprint) led the rankings at their home World Cup event in Lillehammer.
Mikaela Shiffrin and Marcel Hirscher have added another chapter to the heroic story of their alpine racing career. Both Atomic icons won momentous races in Lake Louise and Beaver Creek: at her fourth attempt Mikaela won her 1st World Cup downhill and Marcel returned to the podium as a winner 107 days after breaking his ankle.
On her home slalom in Killington Mikaela Shiffrin set her Alpine world picture straight again with her first win of the season, the 32nd in her career. In Lake Louise Max Franz delivered the Redster effect with 2nd place on the podium.
REDSTER UNIT AT THE WINTER OPENING 3x IN THE TOP 7
The Atomic Nordic Department got off to a great start at the Cross Country World Cup opening in Ruka, Finland. In both sprint competitions as well as in the pursuit the podium was in reach for three Redster aces.
It was so important for Marcel Hirscher and the whole Atomic team that the Redster superstar could compete in the first race of the season again after fracturing his ankle while training in fall. And it was satisfying to see his comeback taking his training deficit into account. It’s also very encouraging to see that the Redster plan of one podium place per race also brought about the right result again! Mikaela Shiffrin was second and Mattias Hargin third.
SÖLDEN, EXTRA DRY: MIKAELA 5TH IN THE FIRST POSITIONING
Every year the traditional World Cup opening race in Sölden has a touch of ski lottery about it. It’s only a first positioning, which carries more weight being the first giant slalom, than the result in a long season itself. Redster star Mikaela Shiffrin came in 5th place. One mistake on the extremely dry race course (US-snow!) on the Rettenbach Glacier cost her a place on the podium and maybe even the victory.
