Pierra Menta - a myth amongst skimountaineers. Including stages over 4 days in the French village Areches Beaufort, the high alpine competition is said to be the most challenging event of the scene. Atomic's skimountaineers were very successful this year.

Every year, the race takes place in the mountains high above Albertville, with more than 10.000 meters altitude gain. Not only have the high alpine and difficult passages become a legend but also the thousands of spectators along the route. The Pierra Menta is part of the series ‘La Grande Course’ and counts as ISMF Long Distance World Cup. Many hours of competing make reliable, fast and lightweight material even more important. Atomic's Blackland UL 65 and its Race Rocker Skin managed to support the athletes perfectly.

SECOND RANK FOR MIREIA MIRO
Together with her team member Claudia Galicia Cotrina, the Spanish athlete Mireia Miro was able to finish second. The first stage on day 1 brought them rank two. On the second day, they were third, and on the third and fourth day they finished second, again. For the two Spanish sportswomen, it was a marginal race, bearing in mind that an Italian team competing on the same level demanded their full effort.

‘I was in a team with Claudia for the first time, and that even on the longest Pierra Menta I have ever competed in. It worked wonderfully between us, the whole competition was enjoyable in that sense, and also the perfect weather was positive. Still, every single day was hard, as we continually had to keep distance to the two Italians. In the end, we did well and can be proud on our results. I will now relax for a few days and then participate in the Individual Race of the World Cup Final in Mondole.’

Miro was able to gain important points to reach her goal for this season, a Top5 rank in the La Grande Course ranking.

SAMUEL EQUY WINS
The French Atomic sportsman Samuel Equy was able to win the junior competition, which only lasted for two days, however. Together with team colleague Simon Bellabouvier, he dominated the race with two victories in the two stages.

PATRICK INNERHOFER AND JOHN GASTON SCORE HIGHER THAN EXPECTED
Austria's Patrick Innerhofer, together with his colleague Philipp Schädler, finished eleventh after continuously improving their performance. With his racing partner Max Taam, the American ATOMIC athlete John Gaston managed to finish on a very good rank 15.

DAMIANO LENZI NOT IN THE RANKING
The Italian top-athlete and titleholder at the PierraMenta, Damiano Lenzi, had to give up on the first day. He had started with a bit of an illness and was forced to end the adventure Pierra Menta already before passing the first finishing line.

The Atomic skimountaineers are now going to travel to the ISMF World Cup Final in Mondole, Italy. The final competitions take place there from March 18 to 20.
