He’s going for the legendary crystal. When the slalom season kicks off in Val d'Isère, Mattias Hargin wants to recreate what he felt in Kitzbühel last year and take the first step towards the Slalom Crystal Globe. To accomplish his mission, speed, self-confidence, and the perfect set-up are required and Hargin will have to challenge his Atomic teammate Marcel Hirscher.

HE MAY NOT LOOK LIKE A HIGH-FLYER

But only at first sight. When Mattias Hargin won his first ever race in January 2015, he had already gone through 88 World Cup Slaloms. Next to him on top of the podium: the Redster Doubledeck SL. This relationship started in spring – when Hargin fell in love on his very first day with the skis. An explosive acceleration blended with a unique smoothness – exactly the winning formula that helped Mattias finally claim his first victory. In his 7th race on Atomic, he recorded his first win. Making victory’s taste even sweeter is that fact that it wasn’t just any race. Mattias won the race in Kitzbühel, the Mecca of alpine skiing. So, after all, he seems to be a high-flyer.

GREEN-LIGHT-DISTRICT

“I will keep these moments forever. The crowd goes totally crazy. The power can be felt on every single swing. My performance is on the edge every second. The elation after finally crossing the finish line and seeing that green light. I want to have those feelings again.”

“I can feel my heart beating faster from day to day.”

CLASH OF CHAMPIONS

Hargin is ready for the next big thing – and for the duel with Atomic teammate Marcel Hirscher. Beating Beaver Creek’s two-time winner is not going to be easy, as Hirscher knows the 2009 World Championship track well. Hirscher recorded his first ever podium finish in 2008 in Val d’Isère, followed by six more, four of them on top.

“I will do everything in my power to challenge Marcel”, says Hargin, who chose Gällivare and Veysonnanz to prepare him and his doubledeck for the narrow track at Val d’Isère. “Having that Kitzbühel victory in my pocket of course makes things a little bit easier. So I guess it's no surprise that the Slalom Crystal Globe is my next goal. And Val d' Isere should be the first step in that direction.”
