An emotional rollercoaster weekend. While Marcel Hirscher was taking over the Red Jersey in Val d’Isère in his best Redster-style, Atomic’s female Star Mikaela Shiffrin crashed in Åreand there is only hope, she will be back on track soon. Despite all this, there were many happy hours on the Worldcup weekend for the Atomic team.

Home is where the heart is and as it turns out that is where success is too. The „Face de Bellevarde“ in Val d’Isère is said to be Marcel Hirscher’s living room. His results there: 13 races, 9 podium finishes, 5 wins. And many lasting memories, most of them – if not all of them – because of Atomic. This weekend’s action were no different.  After having an epic 1.29 second lead in the giant slalom, a show of strength – after 8th place during the slalom’s first run – eventually put Hirscher in the overall 2nd place. “Marcel’s 1st run setup was a too aggressive, but his 2nd run adjustments paid off big time. And he showed who really is the fastest man on the hill” said Atomic Race Director Christian Höflehner. Hirscher’s World Cup results seem to second that. Five races, 5 podium finishes, 3 wins, and a 124 point World Cup lead.

YOUNG REDSTER GENERATION SHOWING OFF

Magic moments were also delivered by Atomic’s young generation in Val d’Isére. Manuel Feller (Hirscher: “He did twice the amount of work I did during the off-season”) got a 4th place finish after qualifying for a second giant slalom run for the first time. Marc Digruber recorded in his first race on the Redster FIS SL a career-best result in his World Cup debut (15th place) and Marco Schwarz got his first World Cup points after placing 18th and 19th at the young age of 20. Höflehner said: “Hats off to Manuel. Returning after this (disk) injury is a sign of a great sports man.

BONE CONTUSION - MIKAELA OUT INDEFINITELY

One important woman will be missed in the upcoming races. Consistent winner Mikalea Shiffrin crashed into the nets during warm-ups in Are. Diagnosis: MCL injury and a bone contusion. The time of her comeback is unknown. “Do I have to say what that means for Mikaela and Atomic? I don’t think so. We’re crossing our fingers, but bone contusions can be lengthy injuries. I still imagine her being one of the fastest racers, if she hadn’t got injured”, says Höflehner, who also took away some positive thoughts during the weekend: “Whenever there’s someone who’s making you go ‘Wow’ it’s always someone with a pair of red skis.” Meanwhile, Michaela Kirchgasser is happy about her start to the season after having finished 4th in Are. “The 2nd run wasn’t perfect, but it’s good to know that there’s still room for improvement.“
