Atomic's athletes finished the first stop of the Classic High-Alpine La Grande Course Series on the podium.

Last weekend, the skimountaineering series La Grande Course started in the Pyrenees with the Altitoy Ternua, where for two days the athletes competed around the famous spots of the Col du Tourmalet and Luz Ardiden, known from the Tour de France. The series is said to be most important for international skimountaineers, as it covers 6 European competitions in high-alpine terrain.

SECOND RANK FOR MIREIA MIRO
Having achieved 2 second ranks on both competition days, the Spanish Atomic athlete Mireia Miro, together with her colleague Marta Garcia Farrés, was able to ensure the second rank overall. Miro found into the perfect physical shape for the important competitions of the season:

‘The race was a marvelous experience, I'm very satisfied with my result. It was the first time I ran in a team with Marta, and that is always a challenging factor. Still, it worked optimally. Offending the victor-team was not possible, but we could assert ourselves against an Italian and another Spanish team well. The conditions were difficult, visibility was bad and there was a lot of wind in high-levelled areas, which not only made it tough for us but also for the organizer. Nevertheless, they did a great job. A positive experience of the race were the Atomic-skins, which worked perfectly in very differing circumstances.’

Consequently, the Spanish athlete could, already achieve a good foundation for her seasonal goal, a Top5 rank in La Grande Course.

SECOND RANK ALSO FOR DAMIANO LENZI
Atomic athlete Damiano Lenzi was able to fight for the victory together with his team-partner Matteo Eydallin. After winning the first stage by margin, the two could also the stay in lead on the second day due to risking at lot in the descents. Only after technical problems with the backpack mounting in the final running passage, they had to give in to their combatant, finishing second. All in all, this meant that after 4 hours of running they achieved overall rank 2 with 9 seconds deficit.

‘I'm happy to be back. The competition was hard, a continuous fight against the victor-team. In the ascents, we regularly fell back, in the downhills, we could score. My shape is getting better, the team and material worked perfectly. Congratulations to the winners, and now – Pierra Menta – let's go!’

The Atomic skimountaineers' next station is another competition of La Grande Course, the so called ‘Pierra Menta’ in France from March 9th to 12th.
