EDI UNTERBERGER SAYING FAREWALL
Meanwhile Atomic service icon Edi Unterberger cannot get any better and is retiring after 25 incredible World Cup seasons. On the side of superstars like Markus Wasmeier, Hermann Maier, Michael Walchhofer, Aksel Lund Svindal and Marcel Hirscher, he has been a key element to success. „His performance cannot be overestimated“, said Race-Director Christian Höflehner. „The whole company is greatly indebted to Edi‘s work. With regret we have taken note of his decision.“ The numbers speak volumes: Edi Unterberger has prepared the racing skis of his athletes at 98 World Cup victories, 193 podiums, 11 Olympic-medals (5 in Gold), 12 World Championship-medals (6 in Gold) and overall 10 big globes and 18 discipline globes. Lately with Marcel Hirscher he had to prepare 62 pairs of Giant Slalom, 58 pairs of Slalom, and 12 pairs of Super-G-skis during the whole season - eight per practice session, 2 to 4 per race respectively. The average amount of work invested per pair amounted to roughly 3 hours, doesn’t sound like an eight to five job.
