Nordic Success Stories. Dominik Windisch, the versatile biathlete from South Tyrol, fulfilled his childhood dream of celebrating a World Cup victory in Canmore, Canada.

In the moment of success the Redster-athlete didn’t forget all the people that helped him on the way to the top: „My family, the coaches, sponsors, fans and special thanks goes out to my serviceman and the whole team.“ After his recent victory at the Marcia-longa Atomic-Star Tord Asle Gjerdalen finished in third place at the Kaiser Maximilian Lauf in Seefeld. The duel for the win in the Ski Classics Tour is still in full swing.

Erratic weather conditions with snowfall and partly heavy squalls. The race day in Canmore, Canada didn’t really look like it would become the most beautiful one in the career of Dominik Windisch. 40:37,1 – four missed targets – those are the sheer facts of his first World Cup victory in the mass start race that the likeable Italian will never forget. „Over the last 1.5 kilometers, after the last standing shooting I saw my chance and just grabbed it“, smiled Dominik. He reached the finish line 4.1 seconds ahead of the German Benedikt Doll and 8,6 seconds ahead of Frenchman Quentin Fillon Maillet. „I’ve been working towards this moment for 20 years“, said Windisch in the finishing area. „As long as I can remember I’ve been following Biathlon at home in Antholz. I have admired my coach standing on the podium and I was hoping to one day accomplish the same feat. I’ve been running superbly but only because my equipment is working superbly as well. Special thanks to the whole Atomic-team and to all who have helped me on the long way: family, friends, coaches, partner, sponsors – it’s also their victory.“ For Redster-Star Windisch this one counts as his biggest success after the bronze medal in the relay-event at the Olympics in Sochi 2014. His strategy for mental strength? Painting portrait pictures and cutting figures out of wood.

PRECISION-ATHLETE GJERDALEN ON THE PODIUM AGAIN

The Ski Classics Tour continues to be a thrill. After the victory at the prestigious Marcialonga last week (“my skis were skiing by themselves”) Redster Carbon Classic-Star Tord Asle Gjerdalen finished in third place at the Kaiser Maximilian Lauf in Seefeld. Over 65 kilometers classic-style his compatriot and fiercest competitor Petter Eliassen carried off the victory and now leads by 140 points in the overall rankings. Gjerdalen: „It’s a great track. I hope it will stay part of the tour-schedule, so I can come back next year and win here!“
