New Year’s Day is a good day for a première win: his first ever career-win on January 1st. Marco “Blacky” Schwarz, winner in Oslo, won’t forget this day in his whole life. The great new star rocked Oslo with his double block technique: trusting his Redster set up completely and now slowly honoring what his team friend Marcel Hirscher has always said about him: “Blacky skis super turns”

Just before Christmas in Madonna di Campiglio he came second, and all experts said that he wasn’t far away from his première win. That Marco Schwarz came in first for the first time at the city event on the Holmenkollen in Oslo and stood in for his Redster buddy Marcel Hirscher on the top podium proves he’s continuously improving his performance. And also proving what the ski superstar has always said about his race buddy from Carinthia: “He’ll be a great star.”

Now it seems that the time is right: a New Year for a new star. He’s built up his career in the team patiently and carefully. In 2012, when the bright star Marcel Hirscher won his first Overall World Cup, Marco Schwarz entered the World Cup, three times Gold medal winner from the youth Olympics. And he started doing his own thing from the word go. Whilst others were desperately trying to beat such a superstar as Marcel Hirscher, Marco simply focused on tuning his turns and his performance in the Slalom and GS. This summer, Kim Erlandsson, the distinguished long serving serviceman, switched over from Mikaela Shiffrin to Marco Schwarz. Blacky’s countdown code in the Slalom rankings is 10 – 9 – 2 – 1. And the Slalom season has only just begun. Next stop is Zagreb this weekend.
