Eight years ago nobody, not even Marcel himself, thought this would be possible. Marcel Hirscher has just won his 8th Overall World Cup in a row in the penultimate weekend of racing this World Championship winter! Including his small Crystal Globes in the Slalom and Giant Slalom he is now the Global Emperor in skiing history: on top of the eight Overall Wins he also has another dozen small Crystal Globes to add. He’s won everything, achieved everything. And here’s Marcel Hirscher’s exciting answer to the question about his future.

MAGIC MARCEL: GLOBE N° 20 IN THE BAG EARLIER THAN EVER BEFORE...
“Marcel has never had the GS in the bag so early!” said his former coach and now Race Manager at Atomic, Christian Höflehner. Sixth place in Kranjska Gora, the penultimate Giant Slalom race of the season was enough for the Redster hero, to be certain of his eighth win in a row as the best of the best before the World Cup final in Soldeu (AND) this week, and both Crystal Globes in the technical disciplines are in the bag as well.

MARCEL ERA: TIME’S FLOWN BY
“It’s unbelievable how time’s flown by and what has happened in this extremely intense time. It feels like I started and finished school at the same time,” says Marcel, who has built his own Crystal World in skiing history with eight large and a dozen small Crystal Globes from the Hirscher era in total. Winning 20 Globes has made him the best of the best in this all time ranking, just like in the World Championship medal ranking as well. His career scorecard sounds so surreal, that even Marcel, the whole athlete himself, “needs time to absorb and integrate all these records and highlights.”

“NOW IT’S REALLY TIME FOR A BREAK...”
The surprisingly difficult races in Kranjska Gora (sixth in GS, third in Slalom), as well as an untypical fall at the start are signs for him, that now it’s “Enough. It’s really time for a break.” But Marcel Hirscher doesn’t want his statement ‘I’m ready for a break’ to be interpreted as a clear indication about his future.

“I love this sport. Making a decision about my future career is so important to me, that I’m going to take all the time out that I need for that: but definitely one or two months.”

MIKALEA: ANOTHER WORLD RECORD – 15 WINS IN ONE SEASON
Two days before her 24th birthday, Mikaela Shiffrin, Marcel Hirscher’s female counterpart in the Atomic racing team, is only thinking about the immediate future. She’s already certain to win the Overall World Cup and Slalom World Cup, but in the final week in Soldeu she can always reward herself with two more small Crystal Globes, the one in GS is pretty certain and as the leader in the World Cup she has the best chances in the Super G as well.
