“If Franz-Josef can call up his talent in ski jumping that he’s capable of, then...” Up until now the Atomic combined skier Franz-Josef Rehrl was nearly rated exclusively by his ski jumping performance. Ironically, with his first appearance at the home World Championships in Seefeld the Redster athlete couldn’t call up what he’s capable of in ski jumping. And then in the 10 kilometer cross-country race the super jumper delivered a great performance to jump from 4th place into Bronze position. His support team had prepared the “Redster carbon secret weapons” for wet snow…

GOOD JUMP, THEN UNBELIEVABLE
With his first World Cup première win and excellent performance this winter Franz-Josef Rehrl is finally up there among the world’s best athletes. One of a new generation of Nordic Combined skiers, whose success is mainly based on his talent in ski jumping. At least that was the general opinion about the Redster shooting star up until now. With a really good jump, he had really good chances of bringing home a top result in the skiing.
Ironically in his first appearance at the home World Championships in Tyrol he couldn’t produce an excellent result on the big ski jump on the Bergisel in Innsbruck, but only “a good jump”. Based on the season’s results with 4th place in ski jumping, it’s usually difficult to get a place on the podium. But this time everything was different…

“TURBO SKIS” FOR WET SNOW
But then something only Franz-Josef Rehrl and his support team knew: he has an exceptional set of “turbo skis” for wet snow! “These skis glide really quickly but only on a particular type of wet snow and if these are the prevailing conditions, then the Redster Carbon S9s go like a rocket” says Atomic Nordic Team Manager Peter Landl. When Franz-Josef took the “wonder weapons” before the start of the 10 km cross-country competition, he said, “Perhaps I’ll be able to produce something today…”

And that’s certainly true! With his “turbo skis” and home crowd Franz-Josef delivered one of his best performances ever. In the four man group he was leading the group for long distances, as if he had always been a great cross-country skier. “My ski jump was ok, but the cross-country was great. I felt really good during the cross-country, as if I had a rocket attached to my feet. My first World Championship medal is a liberating feeling.”
