The magic mountain on the Semmering is a beautiful place for magical moments in skiing history. Her 51st World Cup win, her 36th in Slalom: with this win she has now made herself the greatest female Slalom skier in history. She’s also the first one to have won 15 World Cup races in a calendar year. 2018 has been a Redster year thanks to the impressive performance by the current skiing superstars Mikaela Shiffrin and Marcel Hirscher, but also thanks to the athletes, who have made their breakthrough to the World’s top athletes in their slipstream. Here’s a recap.

“In the skiing business, says Christian Höflehner Atomic Global Race Manager “we are used to thinking and working in winters, seasons and important events. This year’s recap makes me really happy. Unbelievable what we’ve achieved this year.” That’s true: the historical record of 15 wins by Mikaela Shiffrin in one year is an opportunity to look back on a year in fast motion.

Then there were five out of a possible ten Gold medals in Pyeongchang with the double Olympic win for Marcel Hirscher. Seven out of twelve large Crystal Globes for the Atomic team at the end of the last World Cup season. Once again the Redster unit provided both Overall World Cup winners and remained the most successful winning ski brand with 28 wins in one season.

“We are in the Shiffrin - Hirscher skiing age. With their records, Mikaela and Marcel have become celebrities in the halls of fame. We are really happy that they’re both racing on our material, as it creates an impressive magnetic effect.”

The team boss also praises the other heroes in his star line up; who managed to make the breakthrough to world class athletes this year: Ester Ledecka, the snowboard queen who won her Olympic Gold in the Super G, Sofia Goggia, Olympic and World Cup winner in the Downhill (she should make her comeback in January 2019 in Cortina d’Ampezzo) and Katharina Gallhuber who has made a name for herself in the Slalom elite. And also in the men’s, the magnetic effect of Marcel Hirscher has brought out three Atomic athletes Manuel Feller, Marco Schwarz and Mauro Caviezel, who are now waiting at the starting gate for their great careers.

And Marcel Hirscher? He spent a very nice Christmas with his family and is now training with his Redster buddies Marco Schwarz and Manuel Feller on the Reiteralm. As the New Year brings new fortunes all three are in the line-up for the city event in Oslo (Ladies and Men’s) on New Year’s Day.
