More and more skiers are discovering a passion for ski touring as they seek out new physical challenges and outdoor sporting experiences. Which is why ATOMIC has developed a range of skis, boots and equipment for the 2011-12 season which promises to make the climb just as enjoyable as the descent.
Ski tourers are used to making painful compromises: a lightweight ski usually means poor performance; a boot offering firm support usually means a lack of flexibility on the ascent.
ATOMIC's ability to construct skis and boots which are just as much fun going up or downhill is largely down to the philosophy of the long-established brand from Altenmarkt: every employee is also a passionate skier, every new development is immediately put to the test. Which is why ATOMIC's Ascape collection is able to meet the demands of ski tourers of all levels of ability – from the ascent to the downhill run through virgin powder snow. The collection ranges from skis and boots to poles, helmets and protectors.
Charter, Drifter and Aspect: enjoying nature the greener way
For 2011-12, the premium Charter, Drifter and Aspect ski models combine light weight with excellent downhill performance in powder snow. The 100mm-wide Charter provides maximum lift thanks to a Power Rocker 10. The narrower Drifter (95mm) and Aspect (87mm) deliver outstanding grip even on hard snow. And with the Charter, Drifter and Aspect skiers can enjoy the unspoiled outdoors while also protecting it: all three models are based on ATOMIC's exclusive Renu concept. Environmentally-friendly, recycled or recyclable materials are used during construction – resulting in the minimal use of fiberglass and epoxy resin and eliminating energy-intensive aluminum components altogether. The Renu principle reduces the carbon footprint without compromising on fun: all Renu models offer the kind of outstanding performance skiers the world over have come to expect from ATOMIC – while also reducing weight to a minimum. The perfect partners from a design and technical perspective are the Teleskop Tracker poles: lightweight thanks to a combination of aluminum and carbon and quickly adapted to the relevant situation with the Power Lock.
Ultimate: the lightweight racing weapon
The ski used by Kilian Jornet Burgada to win the 2010 World Championship Vertical Race and become winner of the Individual World Cup 2010 is now available to leisure racers keen to secure a decisive competitive edge. Weighing in at a mere 700g, it comes into its own on the ascent. But its downhill characteristics have also been further optimized for the new season: a new wood core with two poplar stringers now provides additional stability and greater rigidity.
Greener boots for unrivalled performance
Like the Charter, Drifter and Aspect, the Tracker Renu touring boot is also a Renu development. Thanks to the use of Pebax, a thermoplastic elastomer, it is lighter and more environmentally friendly than a conventional boot while offering the same level of performance. Like the other Tracker models, it combines the precise support of a performance boot with comfortable characteristics: it boasts a non-slip sole and a shell construction with Power Control Release. Another strength of the Tracker: the Enduro chassis exclusive to ATOMIC improves power transmission on wider skis thanks to a 5mm increase in stand height.
High-grade safety equipment you almost forget you're wearing
ATOMIC is not only embracing the touring discipline by offering high-grade skis, boots and poles, it also has a range of advanced safety equipment. ATOMIC has made its equipment so light and comfortable while ensuring that skiers do not have to make any compromises in terms of safety. The perfect partner to the Charter, Drifter and Aspect is the Xeed – a lightweight helmet featuring the Adaptive Fit system, removable ear pads and an adjustable ventilation system.
In combination with the breathable ATOMIC protectors from the lightweight Live Shield range, the level of protection is unrivalled: they provide reliable protection without restricting freedom of movement on the descent, while remaining comfortable on long ascents thanks to outstanding breathability.
