Half time. Fifth slalom of the season, fifth victory, five more to go to achieve a perfect season – Atomic’s exceptional athlete Marlies Schild crownded herself to queen Marlies IV. on the Sljeme in Zagreb. Marlies Schild won the ladies’ race with most prize money in the world cup (42,000 Euros for the victory) for the forth time. Atomic team colleague Michaela Kirchgasser finished on 3rd place – this was her first world cup podium in slalom.
1.40 seconds ahead of 2nd place, best time in both runs, afterwards kisses for the cameras and the traditional coronet for the Snow Queen of Zagreb. Pressure is a foreign word for Marlies Schild, she races to the books of records as if she were on rails. When it comes to victories in a single discipline, only legends Vreni Schneider (34 slalom victories), Alberto Tomba (35 slalom victories) – he was in Zagreb and paid his respects to the snow queen –, ATOMIC All Star Annemarie Moser-Pröll (36 downhill victories) and Ingemar Stenmark (46 giant slalom victories) rank ahead of Marlies Schild. What had Marlies Schild to say about her 32nd slalom victory (34th World Cup victory)? “It is great to be ahead, it does not matter how much. My series quickens me, it makes me even more confident, I enjoy every single moment.“
PRAISE FOR ATOMIC SKI-TECH WOLFGANG MOSER
ATOMIC athlete Michaela Kirchgasser enjoyed the moment on the podium when the anthem was played. After all she was able to race two equally good runs, and this was rewarded with her first podium place in slalom in the World Cup! “I found a good line, I skied well. Thanks to my ski-tech Wolfi Moser. He always prepares my skis so perfectly well. Together we found a setup that works well for me and I’m able make it to the finish proving my skills. I still have to get rid of some mistakes and I’ll be able to be on top of the podium.“
