3rd place in the forth World Cup super-G of his life! Marcel Hirscher accomplished a sensation at the season’s finals in Schladming and gained 60 points on his ATOMIC D2 RACE. Two more races to go and the ATOMIC star might still win the overall World Cup; he’s only behind by 75 points.

“I was skiing very freely, because I also had the intention to get an idea of the slope for the giant slalom. The result surprises me and probably the rest of the skiing world”, Marcel Hirscher, smiling with relief, said at the World Championships Congress Center in Schladming during the press conference. It’s a fact that the 23-year-old specialist for technical events has only participated in four World Cup super-Gs so far. He only gained points once – in Val d’Isere in 2009 as 11th. His explanation for 3rd place, “I used number 2 the best way possible, the course was technically challenging, so I could get a lot out of it. It was a really good race and my ski-tech Edi Unterberger selected the suitable Doubledeck from the choice of speed skis.”

Hirscher comments the overall World Cup, “Nothing has been decided yet!“
The sensation in the super-G influences the battle over the overall World Cup title. Hirscher has to catch up 75 points, “It’s a second place [80 points] I need to achieve. I still have two opportunities for this and I will give my best and full throttle. It’s not like racing down just like that was enough for me to finish on the podium without any effort. Anyways, in regards to the overall World Cup nothing has been decided yet.”
