The Sölden story. All beginnings are easy: three ATOMIC stars in the top 6 – the new generation of the ATOMIC D2 Race helped Philipp Schörghofer to reach the podium (3rd place). Carlo Janka (4th place) and Marcel Hirscher (6th place) showed passion and performance at their comeback.

“This third place shows how far Schörgi has already come with the material setup“, Schörghofer’s serviceman Christoph Silbergasser analysed. Philipp Shörghofer considered the innovation of the D2 series for giant slalom as a major step, “The performance of the D2 is incredible, especially under such conditions.“

The secret of the success of the D2 Race? “The Doubledeck combines the best characteristics of the sandwich and the cap construction type“, ATOMIC Race Director Rudi Huber explains. This is one, but not the only reason why the ATOMIC superstar has been an avowed fan of the D2 ever since. Janka, who ranked forth in the first race after the season with his heart operation, said, “It’s incredible how the material gets faster and faster in every stage of development“. Janka’s comeback was not the only one that was sensational during this kick-off weekend!

“I am so relieved and I had so much fun skiing, I don’t want to talk about a mistake I made in the first run – the 6th rank is so much more than what I expected for the first race.“ Marcel Hirscher, who used a special pair of boots in the second run, was really happy. Hirscher can be pleased with this comeback, just as Benni Raich (who ranked 19th) can be after his bad knee injury, “I think it was a great dress-rehearsal today. I still need some time, but racing today was extremely important.“ Kathrin Zettel also showed a promising performance in Sölden, “After my health issues this 7th place in Sölden was almost like a victory for me. I’m getting stronger race by race.“
