TINA WEIRATHER SECURES 2ND PLACE IN THE DOWNHILL WORLD CUP ON WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS SLOPE

Fantastic performance by 22-year-old ATOMIC Young Star Tina Weirather. On the ATOMIC D2 RACE the Liechtensteiner finished on place 4 on the 2013 World Ski Championships slope in Schladming. This was her 8th top-10 result in 8 downhill races. This means: 2nd place in the downhill World Cup in her comeback season. Fantastic as well: ATOMIC All-Star Benjamin Raich surprised with his best downhill result – 5th place!

It’s good that Tina Weirather didn’t listen to her father Harti Weirather (6 downhill victories, downhill World Champion 1982) and her mother Hanni Wenzel (double Olympic Champion 1989, 33 World Cup victories). “After her forth cruciate ligament fracture we told her to let go. But she loves skiing and didn’t want to stop. Thank goodness!” Father Weirather was excited and happy in the finish of the World Championships stadium during the medal ceremony his daughter was part of. This is where he celebrated his downhill world champion title 30 years ago.

2, 10, 9, 5, 3, 3, 4, 4 – these are Tina Weirather’s results of this downhill season. “I had a killer ski today. Considering the spring-like temperatures, the perfect setups was really important“, Tina Weirather thanked her ATOMIC ski-tech Klaus Huttegger. “To be second in the downhill World Cup is a dream come true. I’m very excited about the World Championships here. It’s good they will take place in February, because it will be colder and I prefer skiing on more compact snow.“

Best downhill result for ATOMIC All-Star Raich
Benjamin Raich keeps promises. Three weeks ago the winner of 36 World Cup races won his first super-G in Crans Montana and afterwards said that he would like to concentrate on speed events in the upcoming World Championships season. It has already worked out by the end of this season. After ranking 10th in Kitzbühel in 2006, 5th place now is his best downhill result. On thursday super-G is scheduled.
