SCHILD SERIES AND A NEW STAR
Sensational series. Forth slalom, forth victory – Atomic’s exceptional athlete Marlies Schild celebrated her 31st slalom triumph at the world cup in Lienz. Only 3 more victories to go until Marlies Schild reaches Vreni Schneider’s world cup record, and 6 more to achieve a perfect season with 10 slalom victories in a row. 16-year old Atomic US girl Mikaela Shiffrin surprised greatly by reaching 3rd place. At the men’s downhill in Bormio, Erik Guay missed the podium by 22 hundredths of a second.
1.19 – 1.87 – 0.46 – 0.79. This, expressed in numbers, is how Marlies Schild is ahead of her World Cup competitors. “I simply enjoy every race, skiing is so much fun“, ATOMIC star Marlies Schild smiled after her 33rd World Cup victory. While she keeps on working on her Perfect Season in slalom, ATOMIC ski-tech Rudi Berger keeps working on the perfect setup and new aims, “Marlies is a perfectionist, it’s fun to work with her. I think this is the secret of success. There is room for improvement in giant slalom. After 11th and 15th place we now want to rank among the top-10.“ 16-year-old ATOMIC team baby Mikaela Shiffrin was pleased about her first podium place. The US wunderkind conquered 3rd place due to best time in the second run after ranking 12th after the first run. It was her 8th arrival in world cup!
ERIK GUAY RANKED FORTH IN BORMIO DESPITE HEADWIND
Erik Guay gave a proof of life on the steepest downhill in the World Cup. 4th place for the ATOMIC model athlete, just like in the cancelled race in Gröden. “I’m glad I reached the finish safely. Unfortunately, I had to deal with headwind before the St. Peter jump, otherwise I probably would have achieved a podium place. I’m really looking forward to the classics series in the new year.“
