WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS GOLD FOR GJERDALEN, VASALOPPET VICTORY FOR AUKLAND

After taking bronze in the 15 kilometers as a replacement, Tord Asle Gjerdalen was also able to compete for the Norwegian team. With the Atomic pilot starting, they took World Championships gold in Val di Fiemme. Another Atomic athlete was also in the spotlight at the highlight of the long distance season: After a first victory in 2008, Jørgen Aukland won the renowned Vasaloppet again. His brother Anders was third; the two are joint leaders in the Ski Classics overall standings.

ANDERS AUKLAND WINS SKI CLASSICS OVERALL RANKING

Perfect finish. First the Birkebeinerrennet, then the season’s finals in Sweden’s Vaalaadalen – ATOMIC athlete Anders Aukland won two races in a row on the new ATOMIC World Cup Classic Featherlight SDS and the ATOMIC Worldcup Classic Boot, which was a perfect final sprint leading to the victory of the Ski Classics ranking. The Norwegian won the Classics series, consisting of 7 races, by 2 points.

ANDERS AUKLAND: VICTORY IN RECORD TIME AT CLASSICS RACE IN LILLEHAMMER

ATOMIC athlete Anders Aukland achieved his first victory of a Ski Classics race – and made it in record time! The Norwegian won the 54km Birkebeinerrennet in 2:21:34 hours, 2:59 minutes faster than the best time of 2008. At the cross-country skiing World Cup finals in Falun (SWE) Marthe Kristoffersen finished third in the 2,5km race.

MARTIN KOUKAL: FIRST VICTORY IN MARATHON CUP

Surprise coup. Martin Koukal won the last FIS marathon competition before the Wasa Race on the upcoming Sunday. The 50km skating world champion of 2003 raced to his first victory in the FIS marathon cup on the Atomic World Cup Classic in the 50km race of the 39th Finlandia Hiihto in Lahti. In the overall marathon cup, the Czech now ranks forth.

BENJAMIN WEGER HEADS TO WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS WITH THREE PODIUM PLACES

Place 3 for Benjamin Weger in the sprint of Kontiolahti, the last Biathlon World Cup station before the World Championships. Two weeks before the World Championships in Ruhpolding, the Swiss achieved his third podium place of the season racing with the ATOMIC WORLD CUP SKATE. Just in time for the World Championships, his ATOMIC colleague Christoph Sumann made his way back to the world’s elite by ranking sixth in pursuit.

OLYMPIC CHAMPION BILL DEMONG FASTEST IN THE SKI RUN

Extremely cold, extremely good! News of success for ATOMIC after the ice-cold weekend of the nordic athletes! Olympic Champion Bill Demong (USA) achieved the best time in the ski run at the world championships dress rehearsal of the nordic combined athletics in Val di Fiemme and finished on the podium after he ranked 17th after the jumping. ATOMIC Athlete Marthe Kristoffersen (NOR) also achieved 3rd place in the 10 km mass start race at the world cup in Rybinsk, Russia.

DOUBLE VICTORY FOR AUKLAND BROTHERS

Third coup at the Marcialonga! On Sunday, Atomic athlete Jörgen Aukland won the 70 kilometer cross-country skiing marathon classics in Italy for the third time after 2003 and 2006. This happened after an incredible race to catch up from kilometer 40 onwards and an exciting finish sprint against his elder brother and Atomic colleague Anders.
