Marcel Hirscher has achieved his goal. On Sunday, the ATOMIC star received the Big Crystal Globe for the victory of the Overall World Cup in Schladming. Hirscher crowned a successful season for ATOMIC with highlights like the victory of the Overall World Cup and the Men’s Giant Slalom World Cup as well as the Slalom World Cup (Marlies Schild) and the Overall Europa Cup (Lisa Magdalena Agerer) in the ladies’ unit.
“There are talents once in a century, and then there is Marcel Hirscher, a talent once in a millennium“, Bernhard Russi, Olympic downhill winner, double World Champion, slope designer and leading ski exert in the Swiss media, said about Marcel Hirscher. This talent once in a millennium received the Big Crystal Globe for the Overall World Cup victory after an exception comeback season (navicular bone fracture just before the World Championships 2011) with 9 World Cup victories. Afterwards he said with relief, “A burden has just been lifted from my shoulders. The last couple of weeks were extremely heavy. The pressure of knowing that I might be able to win the Overall World Cup and to concentrate on the races at the same time was really immense. It’s incredible that I’m really holding the Big Crystal Globe in my hands now.“
