HIRSCHER CATCHES UP IN THE WORLD CUP
3rd place in giant slalom and 60 World Cup points for Marcel Hirscher. The race on the ATOMIC D2 RACE to catch up has started successfully at the double of technical events in Kranjska Gora. Hirscher will keep the Red Tricot in the giant slalom ranking until the season's finals in Schladming and is ahead by 92 points.
“It is not easy to find the right setup here“, Marcel Hirscher admitted after the inspection of the slope. Despite spring-like weather the snow on the course Podkoren 3 was in a compact, winter-like state. As the first racer in the first heat, Marcel Hirscher raced to place 4. This was not good enough for the eight-time winner of this season, who improved in the second heat when he achieved third best time and finished as third, “I was really pissed about the first run. I feel a lot better when I speed up fully. Place 3 is okay, I’m really close to winning the crystal globe.“
The ATOMIC star ranks first in the giant slalom ranking by 92 points before the season’s finals in Schladming. In the overall World Cup he caught up 60 points and is still second, 55 points behind first place. Before the slalom of Kranjska Gora on Sunday, the racer promised, “I will fully attack, otherwise my system won’t work.“
US girl Shiffrin’s forth top-10 result
Marlies Schild, winner of the slalom title after the last slalom in Ofterschwang, ranked 6th in Aare. ATOMIC Youngster Mikaela Shiffrin finished 9th three days before her 17th birthday. This was the forth top-10 result for the US girl in this slalom season.
