Overall world cup leadership! Second victory in this season for Marcel Hirscher. after a wild performance in the slalom on the Gran Risa in Alta Badia, the Atomic star is in the lead of the overall world cup (425 points) and the slalom ranking (160 points). The atomic material evolution in the setup supported the 22-year-old racer in his fifth world cup victory!
One person was especially happy in Alta Badia: legendary ATOMIC serviceman Edi Unterberger. He was analyzing the changing conditions on the Gran Risa meticulously with Marcel Hirscher’s father Ferdinand. Several pairs of skis accompanied Marcel to the start before the first and second run. But it was decided to stick to something familiar. “We chose the pair from Beaver Creek – these are new skis that are perfectly fit for me under these conditions“, Marcel Hirscher said. “The whole ATOMIC package with the new material component that we are still keeping to ourselves works out well. New innovations make their way to me constantly, ATOMIC is very creative in this regard.“
SCHILD AND HIRSCHER AS FAVORITS FOR FLACHAU
Marcel Hirscher has already noticed that he’s heading for the home races in Flachau as overall World Cup leader, “This is nothing more than a snapshot. I want to race and have fun, points don’t matter.“ The athlete from Salzburg is especially excited about the night slalom on Wednesday in Flachau, “In 2007, this was the place I became Junior World Champion in giant slalom and Junior Vice World Champion in slalom. It’s a great slope.“ ATOMIC star Marlies Schild won on this slope in 2010. The slalom queen with a total of 31 World Cup victories is the unbeaten leader in the slalom ranking after two World Cup slaloms and thus the top favorite for the race on Tuesday.
