High-class skiing has many faces – in slalom, it was once again Marlies Schild’s! Despite mistakes in both runs and 3rd place in the end, she has already gained the slalom World Cup title for the forth time. “It’s great that everything’s already settled. Now I will be able to race even more freely in the remaining races.“ Marlies is excited about slalom crystal globe #4 and still has the chance in this season to become the best female slalom racer of history.
“I made mistakes, I stayed in the race, but the speed was gone“ – her profound analysis of the race was accompanied by a smile and a wink. She only missed the best time by 7 hundredths of a second – but 3rd place was enough to win the slalom World Cup for the forth time in her career. Marlies Schild and her ski-tech Rudi Berger were really happy, “Under these conditions it was all about the right tuning of the edges of the ATOMIC RACE 158 SL. We really succeed, because Marlies was able to make up for lost time after the mistakes. And now she will get her forth slalom crystal globe.“
All-time best soon?
The upcoming races in Are and Schladming are a great chance for Marlies. Even though the World Cup title in 2011/2012 is a done deal, it is only one more victory she needs to equalize Vreni Schneider’s record (34 World Cup victories in slalom) in the all-time ranking. She has almost drawn level with her partner Benjamin Raich (36 World Cup victories for ATOMIC so far).
Young Gun Franz on fifth place
It was a successful weekend of speed competitions for ATOMIC Young Gun Max Franz. The athlete from Carinthia gained a lot of points in Norway for the season’s finals in Schladming, where he will participate in the super-G and the downhill. In the super-G on Friday he finished tenth, on Sunday he repeated his best result of the season and ranked fifth as he did in Gröden.
