ATOMIC DOMINATES THE SKI CLASSICS

Anders and Jørgen Aukland's joint victory in the final Ski Classics race in Sweden also meant first and second places in the overall standings for the Atomic athletes. Simen Østensen dominated the Ski Classics sprint. Together, the three Norwegians also won the team standings being all part of Team Xtra Personell. That couldn't possibly be beaten in the long distance!

ATOMIC NORDIC: SAVING THE BEST TILL LAST

The final race of the biathlon season was a hit for atomic athletes. Christoph Sumann won the pursuit in Chanty-Mansijsk, Russia – 1185 days after his last world cup win; Dominik Landertinger took second place in the mass start and thus thrust his way onto the podium for the overall world cup standings in third place. In the long distance, Atomic star Anders Aukland sealed overall victory in the ski classics series even before the final race of the season with his fourth success in the Birkebeinerrennet.

SOARING 2.0: THE PHENOMENON OF MARCEL´S SUCCESSES

Lenzerheide. After the 2012/2013 season Marcel Hirscher remains the world’s best racer and a phenomenon for the ski world. In the winter after his big breakthrough he was able to excel himself: overall World Cup winner again, this time with even more points. MIKAELA SHIFFRIN: SHE’S ALSO GOT A CRYSTAL GLOBE

Lenzerheide. Perfect dramaturgy: Exactly one month after winning the gold medal in Schladming, Mikaela Shiffrin won the slalom crystal globe in the last race of the season. It seemed to be an impossible mission when she was behind after the first run by 1.17 seconds, but Mika was able to turn everything around for the happy end of her magical season: she finished on the podium at eight out of eleven slaloms, won four times, became world champion and World Cup winner. Just three days after her 18th birthday...

Marcel: Final sprint at the super-G

“My batteries are fully charged,“ Marcel Hirscher said. Charged with the medals won in Schladming: gold in slalom and the team event, vice champion in giant slalom. And with precious crystal: in Kranjska Gora the world champion proved to be the steadiest slalom racer of the 2012/13 season and made himself the winner of the one “glass cup“ that had not been in his glass cabinet yet. 18 World Cup races, 16 podium results and leader of the overall World Cup, 149 points ahead: Marcel is trying his best to finish this season as the overall World Cup winner again. Just as last year, Marcel is racing the super-G in Lenzerheide at this season’s finals. All good things come in threes.

WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS GOLD FOR GJERDALEN, VASALOPPET VICTORY FOR AUKLAND

After taking bronze in the 15 kilometers as a replacement, Tord Asle Gjerdalen was also able to compete for the Norwegian team. With the Atomic pilot starting, they took World Championships gold in Val di Fiemme. Another Atomic athlete was also in the spotlight at the highlight of the long distance season: After a first victory in 2008, Jørgen Aukland won the renowned Vasaloppet again. His brother Anders was third; the two are joint leaders in the Ski Classics overall standings.

TORD ASLE GJERDALEN: BRONZE IN AVIATORS

Perfectly ground Atomic Worldcup Skate Featherlight skis under his feet and reflective aviator sunglasses over his eyes were the ingredients in Tord Asle Gjerdalen's recipe for Bronze success at the Nordic World Ski Championships in Val di Fiemme. The Norwegian only found out that he would be participating hours before the race and took third place in the 15 kilometer freestyle as a replacement for his sick teammate.

LANDERTINGER VERY CLOSE TO THE PODIUM

Atomic athlete Dominik Landertinger showed a solid performance at the end of the Biathlon World Championships. The world champion of 2009, using Worldcup Skate FL Hard Track, only missed the bronze medal by 9.3 seconds. The summary of the Biathlon World Championships in the Czech Republic:

Østensen wins last test before Vasaloppet

Atomic athletes dominate the long distance scene. Simen østensen won the last test before the vasaloppet, the season’s highlight. Ski Classics overall leader Anders Aukland and Borre Naess ranked third and fourth. Together with Jörgen Aukland, winner of the Marcialonga, four Atomic cross country skiers will go about the 90 kilometers of the longest classic of the world in Sweden.

MARCEL: SUPERSTAR NOW WORLD CHAMPION

Schladming. Gold in the team event, silver in the giant slalom, slalom world champion: Marcel Hirscher was able to turn the most difficult task of his career so far into a chapter of enthusiastic ski history. The World Ski Championships 2013 in Schladming ended with his world champion title as a Hirscher heroic epic. “I was told: To win gold at home championships – that is something only the really big athletes achieve.“ This was Marcel’s first comment on his victory. How true! “There is a new slalom world champion every other year. Bu there has never been one before that won on skis developed by himself,“ Marcel said happily.

MIKA & MICHI: GOLD, SILVER, REDSTER

Schladming. Mikaela Shiffrin and Michaela Kirchgasser: The Redster ladies turned the ladies’ slalom into one of the most emotional competitions of these world ski championships. Their performances on the slope, the enthusiasm about the Atomic double victory, mile stones in the careers of both: Mikaela as only 17-year-old world champion is one of the new stars in women’s skiing. Michaela is happy about her first medal in an individual event after winning gold in the team event.

MARCEL: SILVER IN WSC ACID TEST

Schladming. After gold in the team event Marcel Hirscher won the silver medal in the giant slalom. His second place is like a victory over adversity: Just now, during the home World Ski Championships, a displaced cervical vertebra requires attention. A sleepless night, manual therapy in every free minute! “With such pain you usually stay in bed“, he said after the race and was relieved that “the expectations could still be met.“

AUKLAND BROTHERS’ NEXT COUP: ATOMIC STARS DOMINATE CLASSICS SERIES

Second race, second victory. The Atomic stars Jørgen and Anders Aukland dominate the long distance scene. After Anders’ victory and Jørgen’s third place in the first race of the six-part ski classics series, they swapped places in the Italian classic Marcialonga (70 kilometers). Both now come with 320 points and the leader’s yellow bib to the next classic, the König-Ludwig-Lauf in Oberammergau, on Sunday.

MIKAELA IS NOW ALSO SNOW QUEEN OF ZAGREB

Mikaela Shiffrin. Two weeks after her first slalom World Cup victory in Åre, Mikaela Shiffrin is crowned Snow Queen of Zagreb. Best time twice, 1.19 seconds ahead, leader of the slalom World Cup, and Mika is still really cool about everything, “I had already won one race before, so I was not really nervous. Racing slaloms is fun, and winning as well!“

"After finishing 2nd in the really awe-some parallel event at the Munich Olympic Park, the 2nd of January was my last day off – for several weeks”, Marcel Hirscher said. In the middle of winter, already during the countdown to the World Ski Championships, he has finished each technical event so far on the podium, twice as the winner.

She posted on Facebook that the comparison with Marcel Hirscher was the best X-Mas present that one could give her. Now she will celebrate Christmas as the leader of the slalom World Cup.

Redster Boot. His victory with best time in both heats of the icy slalom in Madonna di Campiglio: Once again, Hirscher’s strategy worked out. No one else in World Cup fiddles about material as intensively as team Hirscher does. 100 pairs of skis are shortlisted for slalom races this season; half of them are models of the Icon Series that was developed by him. There’s one important thing the overall World Cup winner has to say, “One of the great truths in skiing – and it applies to me and anyone else: skiing is a question of the right boots.“ Marcel’s boot t(r)ick: There are about 30 pairs of Redster boots for all kinds of weather and snow conditions.

HIGH IN HOCHFILZEN: ATOMICS REMAIN ON TRACK

Keeping it high – after the podium results in Östersund, the Atomic biathletes also showed constantly strong performances in Hochfilzen. Especially in the cross-country ski run, the Austrians Fritz Pinter, Christoph Sumann, Dominik Landertinger and Julian Eberhard – all of them on the Atomic Worldcup Skate FL Hard Track – belonged to the fastest athletes. It only takes a bit more luck in shooting.

Sumann: The Podium Comeback

Successful new start. It’s good that the experienced biathlete Christoph Sumann has decided to postpone the end of his career. And it’s good that he has changed a lot for his sport – although not his partner Atomic. The 36-year old finished on third place at the sprint in Östersund, using Worldcup Skate FL Hard Track, SNS Pilot Race Skate Binding and the WC Skate Boots.

Podium and sixth place for Atomic Biathletes Dominik Landertinger and Fritz Pinter at the World Cup kick-off in Östersund, where both used Worldcup Skate FL Hard Track. “An ingenious start”, former World Champion Landertinger commented. And added, “I can feel that there’s even more possible.” His prediction might come true at the races in Austria – on 7, 8 and 9 December in Hochfilzen.
