It was love at first sight. 11 years ago, 13-year-old Carlo Janka (now 24) used ATOMIC skis for the first time and right away, he was triple canton champion. This was followed by a World Championship title, Olympic gold and the overall World Cup victory. The „iceman“ is burning for his 12th ATOMIC season. The preparations are going as well as hardly ever before. The Swiss young star and his ATOMIC serviceman Stefan Viehhauser are getting ready.

„We are working intensively on material adjustments – after the snow tests in South America, we will know for sure what ski to use for which discipline. And knowing that means progress made compared to last year“, Carlo Janka, third in last season’s overall World Cup ranking, stated. „Having ATOMIC serviceman Stefan Viehhauser exclusively preparing my material is something I consider an advantage. He is very experienced and now able to fully concentrate on the cooperation with me. Stefan is this kind of person that fully commits himself to his athletes and his work.“

When being asked about his two-hour heart operation in February 2011, Carlo Janka is now able to take things easily, „I am fine, getting back in shape has been going well without any problems!“ The giant slalom World Champion of 2009 and Olympic winner of the same discipline in 2010 was not fully resilient during the preparations in the last two years. An odd virus and cardiac arrhythmia slowed the ATOMIC young star down.

15 top-10 places, 5 of them on the podium, including a sensational victory in Kranjska Gora only 10 days after the heart operation, third in the overall World Cup ranking – despite all health issues and the training breaks they caused, the ATOMIC model athlete was able to draw a remarkable balance of last season. Who will be able to challenge a completely healthy Carlo Janka? Janka can’t help but smiling if journalists ask him this, „I hope no one will be able to beat me. But we will see after the first race. If I’m fit again, I hope to be among the best as I was two years ago.“ The „Iceman“ has just uttered his challenge.
