THE NIGHT OF ATOMIC ALL-STARS
Gathering of Atomic all-star. 30th slalom victory for atomic athlete Marlies Schild! The slalom queen crowned herself in Flachau for the 2nd time after 2010 in front of a local audience. Atomic all-stars Annemarie Moser-Pröll (62 world cup victories), Hermann Maier (54 world cup victories, 53 using Atomic) and Schild boyfriend Benjamin Raich (35 world cup victories) witnessed this spectacle. Raich will participate in the men’s slalom in Flachau on Wednesday.
“I am just happy - 30 slalom victories, a total of 32 World Cup victories, this is just incredibly beautiful“, ATOMIC star Marlies Schild showed her brightest smile in the finish of Flachau. The serial victories (3rd victory in the 3rd race) of the athlete from Salzburg are anything but coincidence: the ATOMIC winner setup is constantly optimized with meticulous precision. Schild’s ski-tech Rudi Berger, originally from Eben, a neighboring village, made use of the home advantage. In the break the skis were prepared in a cabinet-maker’s shop close to the finish. “A friend made this possible. And this was better than preparing the skis outdoors.“ ATOMIC athletes Kathrin Zettel and Michaela Kirchgasser, who work with ski-tech Wolfgang Moser, ranked 4th and 6th.
HIRSCHER STARTS AS NUMBER 1 OF THE WORLD
Alta Badia slalom winner Marcel Hirscher is starting on his personal World Champion slope (Junior World Championships gold medal in giant slalom in 2007) today, “It’s a new feeling for me to race as number 1 of the world. In slalom the field is narrow, we will continue working hard to stay among the best.“ One thing that is certain: legendary serviceman Edi Unterberger is also allowed to prepare Hirscher’s ATOMIC skis during the break in the cabinet-maker’s shop.
