Munich - Zagreb - Adelboden - Wengen - Kitzbühel - Moscow. "After finishing 2nd in the really awe-some parallel event at the Munich Olympic Park, the 2nd of January was my last day off – for several weeks”, Marcel Hirscher said. In the middle of winter, already during the countdown to the World Ski Championships, he has finished each technical event so far on the podium, twice as the winner.
Marcel Hirscher travels as last year’s winner to Zagreb, where, at Epiphany, the next challenge of the January slalom rally is scheduled, “My Snow Queen Trophy, a glass crown, was unfortunately broken. During the World Cup finals in Schladming suddenly someone from Zagreb gave me a new one, that was cool.“ In January, the giant slalom Redster D2 will only be in use once, in Adelboden. “I’m spend-ing January, including the parallel event in Moscow, on slalom skis.“ And by saying so, the Atomic complete athlete is talking about is own Icon series.
“Racing in the World Cup is the best preparation we have for racing at the World Ski Championships.“ Marcel Hirscher likes the annual slalom staccato in January. “You’ve fully got the rhythm and there’s little time left for thinking. The concentration is always at a high level.“ The classic (and most difficult) slopes in Adelboden, Wengen und Kitzbühlen are exactly his thing, the current slalom World Cup leader says. “Probably difficult conditions, extremely tight radii, perfect for the Redster setup.“
It will be his 100th World Cup race on legendary Ganslernhang with its phenomenal atmosphere. “I think last year’s World Cup finals in Schladming were quite a pretty good taste of what we have to expect this year: a red-white-red wave of enthusiasm – and I hope I will be able to give people reason for it“, Marcel Hirscher laughed.
