AUKLAND BROTHERS’ NEXT COUP: ATOMIC STARS DOMINATE CLASSICS SERIES
Second race, second victory. The Atomic stars Jørgen and Anders Aukland dominate the long distance scene. After Anders’ victory and Jørgen’s third place in the first race of the six-part ski classics series, they swapped places in the Italian classic Marcialonga (70 kilometers). Both now come with 320 points and the leader’s yellow bib to the next classic, the König-Ludwig-Lauf in Oberammergau, on Sunday.
It was sort of a predictable victory for Jørgen Aukland who trusts the ATOMIC Worldcup Classic FL SDS, the Worldcup Classic Boot and the SNS Propulse RC binding just like his brother does, too. After 2003, 2006 and 2012, the Norwegian won for the fourth time in the 40th edition of the Italian Ski Classic in Trentino. “In this terrain you need fast skies and great power when double-poling the last 2 km uphill to the finish line“, Jørgen Aukland said. “And I had the perfectly fast ski.“
7.500 PARTICIPANTS, TV BROADCAST IN 16 COUNTRIES
The boom of the Ski Classic Series continued at the Marcialonga in Trentino, where the Nordic World Ski Championships take place in a month’s time: A record participation of 7,500 cross-country skiers, TV images were broadcast in 16 countries. The Series continues on 3 February with the König-Ludwig-Lauf (50 kilometers, all bibs sold out) in Germany, the famous Vasaloppet (Sweden, 90 kilometers) follows on 3 March, the Birkebeinerrennet (Norway, 54 kilometers) on 16 March, and the finale on 23 March at the Aarefjällsloppet (Sweden, 75 kilometers).
